Teething Twins -- Share your favorite remedies, please!
So far we have Teething Tablets, Tylenol, Cold "frozen" washclothes, Baby Bliss Gripe Water and a sledge hammer ready for Mommy's head!

Seriously, suggestions welcome! I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try whiskey yet -- but maybe some Bushmill's for Mommy isn't a bad idea! (They are still only eating formula, so "food based" ideas aren't going to work yet -- they are six months old "actual" and only four months old "adjusted" due to their preemie status, despite having caught up size wise!)

:banghead:

1. I used those freezable teething rings.
Seemed to sooth both my children.

12. Worked well with my little sister when she was teething.

Only it wasn't so much a 'ring' as a plastic purple faux pretzel. :)

4. I liked the frozen washcloths -
I thought they worked well, but they thaw out pretty quickly, so you need to keep lots of them in a plastic bag. Also, use softer washcloths.

7. Frozen bagels.
I know they're "food" but not much gets ingested, since the crust is so smooth and hard. They're a lot less messy than teething biscuits, and the cold seems to help.

I remember they used to have those plastic gel-filled teething rings you could put in the fridge, but I suspect like everything else they're made in China these days. So gawd knows what kind of crap they're made of now. At least the frozen bagels aren't toxic.

8. If they can tolerate it, rub--sparingly--some Benadryl on their gums
It acts to numb the gums and will usually improve their temperment. Plus, they may nap better.

21. And if you do it, it's not going to hurt them...
It's not enough to do any harm to them.

11. Don't give them alcohol. It's pointless. The frozen washclothes
work great and in lieu of tylenol, give them ibuprofen because it will reduce the inflammation.

Bonus: nap time!
Worked great on my kids and I haven't killed them yet.

15. Sorry you're having a rough time. I've been there.
That said, my twins never seemed to have too many problems with teething. The biggest issue for us during teething was that they always got diarrhea.

At 6 1/2 months old, my daughter cut 5 teeth in the space of about 2-2 1/2 weeks. She had nasty poopies for close to a month! (Which brought on a very sore bottom - which caused way more discomfort than the teething....:-( )

My kids always liked the freezable teething rings or even just soft chewable toys like the little plastic foot and hand toys.

Otherwise, I would agree with whomever suggested ibuprofen, but please check with your doctor first - I believe that six months may be just barely in age range for using it and since yours are preemies I would want to be absolutely sure first.

Hope you get through it quickly!
And congrats on your twins!! The challenges are many, but the rewards are enormous!

Good Luck!

16. Do you have the baby orajel swabs?
The ones that look like q-tips in the square blue case?
You snap off the end and rub the other end on their gums. Lovely and easy.

20. 1. Put babies in cribs
2. Close their door
3. Put in your earplugs
4. Get book and glass of wine
5. Go outside

That's been working for me all week. Nobody's dead yet, and that's my criteria for success.

22. Baby motrin worked better for us than tylenol
Baby orajel is good like others have suggested. I found that frozen teething rings made things worse because they had sharper edges which hurt their gums. I kept a big bowl of 7 or 8 rings in the fridge at all times. They won't stay cold as long but they are gentler on baby's gums.
Good luck to you and by all means have a glass or two of wine or whatever you want! You deserve it!

26. I don't have any kids, but my mom
used to peel onions and press it on the gums. I remember her doing that to my lil' bro and sis, it was not a pretty sight. But it's tradition, American kids have it so easy. x(
