Anyone ever pan for gold?
I'm heading out this weekend with a buddy to pan for gold somewhere difficult to get to, but promising to be scenic at the least.

Anyone ever do it? I'm not sure what to pack, but I figure bourbon is a good bet. Plus I've been practicing my "done struck it rich" jig.

1. I'm Just A Miner For A Heart Of Gold.
Actually, all of my "panning" takes place at jewelry stores. But it sounds like a blast. Hope you find a whole bunch of it.

3. I've got an idea for you if you "Strike it rich"
- Put all the money in a bank

- Finance a coup of a small Central American country

- Rename it "Dingbattia!"

- Rule over it and live like a king FOREVER!

The end

5. It's fun--my brother and I got a few grams when we went
If your compatriot has a propensity to imitate old prospector cliches, or is in fact named Zeke, then bringing your sanity will be a waste of time. x(

6. It was my Dad's hobby.
He got quite a bit over his lifetime -- which I have now.

He had a theory about using mercury to extract the impurities from the gold ore. Such a fascinating man! Wish I'd realized his wisdom earlier.

7. No, but I have combed cat for gold
Brother had a cat who fancied really fresh cutthroat trout. One spring, lots of warm rain after a winter with very heavy snow fall. Lots of gold dust washed down into creeks and streams. The swimming cat who loved trout came home very sparkly twice a day to share fish with her cat pals. We combed her over some newspaper... gold!

Have fun and remember, a gold pan makes a handy trail wok! Pack some snow peas & chicken with that bourbon and make it a balanced diet. ;)
