That "What Not to Wear" show can suck it!
Every time it's on, they show road signs with little "fashion rules" on them.
There's one sign that says "no miniskirts after 35," and I get panicky when I see it. Every time.
I'm damn well wearing a miniskirt "after 35" if I still feel inclined to do so.

Also, they made a girl buy ugly pants and cut her bangs too long.

They can just suck it.

1. Honey, YOU can definitely wear a mini skirt!
Me, not so much, but that has to do with body type, not age!

3. I wouldn't wear one up to my butt, anyway.
I'm not going to switch to pedal pushers and "mature" lengths when I'm thirty-freaking five!

6. You are NOT 51!
I thought you were a lot younger than that. You look AWESOME!

2. Ignore them
I wore miniskrits after 35 and looked marvelous in them darling.

No doubt they're just jealous because they didn't have the legs and butt to pull them off after 35.

5. Sometimes they choose really awful stuff,
so I should probably take that into account.
It's kind of like the rule wherein you don't let someone with awful hair cut yours.

And don't let someone with not so great thighs dictate your skirt length.

I've always found if funny that they try to give a certain age to cut thing off at. As if we're all on a schedule and at 35 we turn into pumpkins. :P

7. I don't always like the way the women are dressed in the
beginning, but, I don't usually like the clothes that get the hosts' stamp of approval, either.

To me, the point (after a certain age) is to camouflage the flaws and highlight the strengths. The show usually overlooks that in favor of the latest fashion.

9. Yes!
They claim to be finding clothes that flatter people's shapes, but it sure as hell doesn't seem like it half the time!

26. Here's what they do on that show, I think. They get what they can off the rack, ready made but
when they can't, they alter. This is the big secret of the show. Lots of people, maybe even most people, can't get away with looking really great with clothes in their "size." I finally realized that if you buy GOOD clothes that are your style and colors, they will fit if you have them altered. When I faced the fact that I am one size above the waist and another below, I decided to have fewer clothes, but better ones that fit just right!

12. That show annoys the living shit out of me. They make all the women look the
freaking same! And they don't seem to care much about what the woman is actually about or what she's like. I remember one girl they had on who was kinda punk-rock. I thought she looked pretty great. Granted, she needed to have some other clothes for situations where her punky look wasn't appropriate, but they completely wiped out everything about who she was before. She said she really liked her new look so I guess if she's happy... I just thought it was weird. It doesn't help that I really haven't liked most of the fashionable looks of recent years.

19. Exactly -- which is why I like Carson and Tim Gunn
They believe you should take a woman's (and man's) style into consideration, like if she's not a frilly-frills type, then don't put her into those type of clothes... if she doesn't like heels, then don't tell her to buy heels.

13. I like the drama in that show...if the clothes don't work out amazing...
I just concentrate of the drama of the transformation. Usually they look really great at the end.

15. that show is so bland
I loathe it. They are trying to bring back the 80's and they take perfectly good people and stick a broom up their hiney, drape them in tacky synthetic clothing and then act like they cured cancer or something. It's like they are smugging people back into the middle class one by one. I hate, hate, hate that show.

:hi:

23. I spelled smuggling wrong
but I think it's pretty clear. ;)

I can't stand that dark-haired tacky-dressing loudmouth no flavor idiot woman who used to be on there (and may still be) who comes on there looking like Jaclyn Smith's fall line and then takes these artistic/urban type people and makes them look like they live in a 2 bedroom ranch in Phoenix.

16. that haircut was awful -- one more inch or so and you
could have seen her pretty blue eyes, but Nick always seems to go for stick-straight, hang-in-your-face hair.

Yes, many of the women do tend to come out looking the same, but the main advice is usually directed toward proper fit. So many people either squeeze into clothes that are too small, or hide in huge frumpy sweatshirts.

And I think most of the advice isn't meant to be absolute, you just have to see what's good for you and what isn't, and be honest about it.

What Not to Wear gets pretty boring, but I am looking forward to Tim Gunn's Guide to Style.

18. That rule is a crock.
More and more women are still able to look sensational in a mini-dress well into their 40's. Wear what you look good in and to heck with the 'rules.'

20. Maybe I'm just a 26 year old guy with no taste, but
I think that about half the clothes they highly recommend on the show are uglier than the clothes they make fun of and throw away.

22. I wear them

....not up to my butt. I wear them, I like them, and whoever said we can't can't can kiss my ass.

I'm 47 and I'm not stopping. I think I look better in them than I did in my 20's....I gained a few pounds and I'm not as skinny as I was then.

25. I agree
What I can't stand is the nastiness of the co-hosts, especially the woman. I've ended up seeing that show more times than I'd care to, from being around people who were watching it, and it usually ends up putting me in a bad mood. And yeah, I don't think their taste is that great, either; but I also don't know (or care) much about fashion.
