GLBT people I mean. I was reading an article about the handful of gay couples who managed to get married before that Iowa judge stayed his ruling. Some pertinent quotes:
Republican House Minority Leader Christopher Rants said the ruling illustrates the need for a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. "I can't believe this is happening in Iowa," Rants said. "I guarantee you there will be a vote on this issue come January," when the Legislature convenes.
Gov. Chet Culver left open the possibility of state action. "While some Iowans may disagree on this issue, I personally believe marriage is between a man and a woman," the governor said.
I don't understand the loathing, the disgust, the happy justification of emotional cruelty. There are TONS of things that Christians consider "sinful" that are still perfectly legal, and they don't fight tooth and nail to get rid of those things. They aren't trying to legally ban divorce, lying, adultery, excessive alcohol use, "immodest" clothing, masturbation, or pornography. They give lip service to getting rid of such things, of course, but there aren't putting forth a massive, organized, nationwide effort to legally forbid those things to every citizen in the USA. Not like they are gay rights, gay marriage, gay happiness in general, gay EXISTENCE.
It hurts my heart and soul to know that so many people out there hate me and my GLBT brothers and sisters this much. Most of the time I handle it better than this, but I was SO HAPPY to hear that some gay couples found their happiness in marriage, and reading this type of vitriol just makes me want to weep for humanity.
We are so small, so tiny in the Universe, clinging to our ball of dirt and iron and water in the middle of a vast emptiness that's mind-numbing to try and comprehend. Why do we treat each other this way? We're all so alone out here in space, we have nothing but each other. We have NOTHING but each other. We're all family, in that respect. We shouldn't be hurting our family members. It just isn't right.
