16. From National Geographic

Quebec, Canada, 1978
Photograph by Bruce Dale
In a dramatic freefall, the 275-foot (84-meter) Montmorency Falls plunges into the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. In winter, frozen spray from the falls accumulates into an enormous icy mound known as the Sugarloaf, popular with sledders and climbers.

Every month they come out with beautiful, spectacular, jaw-dropping photos. Just when you think you've seen it all, you turn a page and see the world in a whole new way. Thanks for posting that spectacular photo.

26. The Missouri River, by Pierre, South Dakota

July 2004. Ongoing drought.

That structure on the horizon, just left of center and right of the bushy tree, is the boat ramp. You can see how far down below the end of the ramp the water is.

The people in the photo are my pregnant ex, and her brother. They are on what would normally be a sandbar.

The TV couidn't stop warning people about the low water levels and all the people stuck on sandbars!

This was July 4th weekend. We just wanted someplace beach-y, and she was too preggers to drive all the way to the Black Hills like we usually did.

Here's a view of the village of Aylesford in Kent (this is more or less the view from our bedroom and kitchen windows). The river is the Medway, and it's a tidal river, and as you can see I took this at low tide:

And two views from the Isle of Capri. We spent a great long weekend there. Loved it!
