Wedding Band Tattoo, a bad idea or a good idea? |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 08:09 PM by sarcasmo
My wife of six years is trying to talk me into a wedding band tattoo. I personally think it's Tacky, and don't' want to do it just because she wants me to. If I could get some feedback either way, I don't want to make a lame poll, just looking for some honesty.

Tattoos are personal. Asking other people whether or not you should get one is a sign you shouldn't.
Me and my fiance plan to.

2. Would the tattoo go under your wedding ring? |
|
I knew a couple that had tattoos instead of rings. I liked it, but they were the type of people that it made sense for. I guess I would say if you don't really want to, don't do it. Even though you're married, it's your body.

My wife and I were going to get that done.. after talking with several tattoo artists, we found that the fingers are extremely difficult to tattoo.. many artists simply won't work on people's hands.. aparently since the fingers get used so much and exposed to so much on a day to day basis, they end up looking like shit very quickly.. A better idea might be to find a 2-part design and each of you get half.. like a yin-yang symbol, or a heart split into 2 parts..

What if you don't end up staying together or one of you, heaven forbid, passes away. You're stuck with a tacky looking tat for life. Might scare off any new prospects for relationships before they got to hear your story that you really aren't still married.

7. Tell her if she wants one you'll buy. |
|
If you don't want one don't get it- it's your skin. End of story.

8. My husband and i talked to some Tattoo artists about it. |
|
We got the same advice as above - finger tattoos are really hard to do well and often end up looking bad. We gave it up because I wash my hands constantly at work and that would have fucked it up right from the start.

9. Here's the telling line |
|
"don't' want to do it just because she wants me to. "
It sounds like having that permanent of a "symbol" would be a bad idea, in your case.
IMO - you have bigger problems than tatooed wedding bands.

12. Because I don't want to do something my wife wants to makes me have "bigger problems"? |

I guess maybe I should insert jumping off a bridge here. If my wife wanted me to jump off a bridge and I didn't want to, does that make me have "bigger problems"?

14. The way you worded it, it sounded like |
|
you didn't want to do it BECAUSE she "told you to".
Maybe I misread it.

11. As one who once pounded the crap out of my band and his, gave mine back to him |
|
and threw his into a duck pond, I advise against tatoos. Sometimes that 'til death do you part' thing just doesn't work out.

Tattoos are a very personal decision but I could never get one that I knew so many other people had.

15. I personally would never get a tattoo that's visible |
|
with normal work clothes. So that leaves out the face, neck, hands and lower arms.
But that's just me. As others have pointed out, it's your skin.
