66. Oh, GAWD!!! Irish lasagna... |
|
I have a story aobut that...
Now, about ten years ago, senior year in high school and I was looking towards college. My mom knew of a friend of a friend's husband who was an architect, and arrainged to have dinner with them, then he would show me his home office and what he worked on.
Now, I'm a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy. Don't like veggies at all. I fully support vegetarianism because it leaves more meat for me, yanno?
So we go to their house, and she had made vegetable eggplant lasagna.
Not only that, but this couple were both Irish. Really Irish. Pale skin, freckles, red hair, the whole nine yards. They had accents, even. I think they came over at a young age or something, or maybe they were first-generation. So in addition to not having Italian food in the blood to begin with, it was this gross thing full of shredded carrots and green peppers and god knows what else. I think I have a vague recollection of chickpeas.
I think I blocked most of it out.
When my parents saw the food, they shot anxious looks at me. But not to worry. I managed to choke down (literally) the eggplant thingy with the help of bread and butter, and even managed to give a smile to the hostess and politely turn down seconds.
My mom called me a hero afterwards, in the car. I shoulda gotten a medal or something for my mental injuries!
