Anybody know their way around Key West?
I'm planning a trip there next spring and am looking for a cool hotel. This is a girls get away and we don't want a sterile chain hotel, and nothing couples/romantic. Something with the flavor of the area.

1. We have stayed here twice
http://www.galleonresort.com/

On the water, walk to Duvall St and Mallory Square for the sunset party
not a sterile chain but a condo like unit....
Not a B&B but they have 3 bedroom suites that sleep 8
with pull out couches

Have fun!!!
Love it there

2. Mr Borlis and I are going there next week.
We are staying at the Casa Marina Resort. I can let you know how it was when we get back. We have never been there before.

4. Stay at Eden House.
Close to Duval Street. Locally owned/operators. Free booze poolside for an hour every day. Lots of fun. Ignore everyone else. None of them know what they're talking about. :P

5. Make sure you find a place in Old Town.
Lots of guest houses in old town. Also Pier House, The Reach, Casa Marina and Ocean Key House are really nice resorts. The Hilton is downtown too. These are all pricey, but depends on the time of year you come. High season here is Christmas through March, with spring break taking us out toward summer. Prices drop after April.

6. Key West has many different flavors
and you will need to decide which you want, from sophisticated to drink-till-you-puke establishments.

We stayed in a Victorian B&B that actually had a beach in front of it, and both of those items are rare there. Down near the east end of Duval.

7. Just went there in July....
There are a bunch of guest houses within walking distance to Duval street, which is where most of the bars and restaurants are concentrated. I'd say just hit all of the websites until you see one that looks good and is within your budget. Just from walking past a bunch of them, I can't say that I saw any where I WOULDN'T stay.

I didn't much care for the Mallory Square sunset celebration- it was WAY too crowded for my taste.
