Don't you just hate people who NEED to keep conflict going?

Critters

11. I'd give you a list, but then that would just be one more thing they'd bitch
about.

"I KNOW that last sermon was aimed at me specifically! She doesn't visit my great aunt enough! AND she had some internet friend of hers come over and kick my ass!! I'm telling the Conference!"

So, thanks, but no thanks.

9. A friend who does counseling with clergy tells me
that churches put their pastors through hell during their third year at a call, as a way of testing boundaries and commitment. My third year ends in December. I hope he's right. I need a break.

Churches, being comprised of human beings, tend to have these problems. Dammit!

13. Oh, I think I understand
That kind of church shit. My own church went through something like that about four years ago. Lots of nasty memeos from one faction or other, and l-o-n-g after services meetings with acrimonious rants: they say whenever two Jews get together there are three different opinions. We Unitarians admire that degree of harmony. The minister quit, and about a third of the congregation did as well.

I hope your "church shit" isn't nearly as prolonged and nasty, though things did turn out well for us. The minister found a much less stressful job doing something he loved, after two years we found a young couple who now share the ministry, and most of the congregation has drifted back.

There's no doubt these things can drive you nuts. I was going through a medical/spiritual crisis myself when the schism happened, and felt like nothing was going right in my life. I feel for you.

12. My Support committee backed me up again,
which will only piss off the haters more. But that seems to be the thing that makes 'em happiest. So, it's good all around. :bounce:

15. Dear mycritters2, I understand where you are coming from...
I have gone to same lovely church all my life, but I make it a point to stay out of the vestry. I love the group theological disscusions, but sometimes there is too much gossip about such and such. I remember one woman who said, "A sermon should not be more than 10 minutes." HUH? Pastors have got a rough deal. I'm sorry.
How can I help? I will pray for you.
