A new family has moved in above me. There WILL be trouble. |
|
ALL day. ALL evening. Children. BIG children. Running. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. BACK AND FORTH. It sounds like a karate dojo up there.
And then there's the music. LOUD music. Afternoons. Evenings. For hours at a time.
Tomorrow I'm going to the Lease office and submitting a formal complaint. I just renewed my lease, at a thirty buck per month raise, and by DAMN I'm gonna get my money's worth!
I hate running children.

2. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six... |

They have no business behaving like that!
I fully agree that a formal complaint is the way to go...
Apartment living has to be so difficult...
I'm sorry, sweetie...

3. It's been so quiet and peaceful up to now. |
|
I value my calm, and this is stripping it from me one thump at a time. I'm a man of infinite patience, but I'm at the ragged edge of infinity right now, trying not to go over.
Wah.

4. Would it be worth it to bang on their door? |
|
Perhaps they're unaware of how much noise they're making?
Maybe they're new to apartment living....
I kinda doubt it, but it might be worth a try...

5. Not gonna get into a face-to-face. |
|
It's not my problem. It's the Management's problem.
And for all the noise they're making, this won't be the first time for them...

7. Who's the bonehead who decided to put kids atop a single person? |
|
There are just some apartment managers that are complete boneheads.
You have my deepest sympathy because lets face it. It's only going to get worse.

11. Okay, I'll be the unpopular person here. |
|
The people with children, and the leasing office, may not have a boatload of options. Do you know how hard it is to ride roughshod on children to get them to not act like children?
I once had no choice but to live in an apartment with two small children. The apartment above us we referred to as "the Korean dance studio."
Then the folks below us had the nerve to complain about the feet of our two children (ages 18 months and 5 years) when they had an unauthorized oversized dog who terrorized the entire building in the stairwell and their own toddlers who were causing who knows what kind of noise to the denizens below them.
If the family above you is anything like us, I can tell you the parents are painfully aware of every footfall their children make. They are harping on them constantly to little avail. Hiss and yell at children all you want, but they are still going to run back and forth. They aren't pounding to annoy you, they are being children. Just walking across the floor can sound like "A Chorus Line" in some apartment buildings. It's the curse of apartment living.
I sincerely mean no offense, but perhaps the solution I resorted to might work for you. A couple of dollars at the drug store netted me some nifty little earplugs.
Apartment living is not ideal for noise abatement, but it is what it is. I am truly sorry you are bothered.

14. I used to have similar problems... thankfully those people have since |
|
moved out.
My problems were compounded by the fact that I work the night shift... so during the daytime, when the herd of elephants... um, I mean, kids, were running around and making noise was during the time that I was trying to sleep.
Seriously, I don't know how kids can make that much noise. It doesn't seem physically possible. There must have been some kind of resonance in the building itself that amplified the noise. I don't know which kids lived in that apartment, but none of the kids I'd seen around were big enough to make that much noise by running or walking. I almost think it was the adults making the noise, not the kids. (although there were a few times when the noises included bedspring noises without the accompanying children's voices... I'm pretty sure THOSE noises were the adults.)
