what awful things do women do to themselves?
The two things women do to themselves I can't get over are using hair dye and getting breast implants. Several studies including one done by Yale indicates a link between use of hair dyes and non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Ofcourse the hair color business is a multi billion industry so no one appears to want to deal with it. . ..

According to Dr.Robert Filice:
" I remember thinking when Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis died that her use of dark hair dye might have played a role. Sure enough, Hodgkins disease and multiple myeloma are suspected of being related to the use of such products. And data from the National Cancer Institute suggest that 20 percent of all cases among women of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the disease that killed Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, are due to women’s regular use of commercial hair dye products. The evidence is also suggestive of an association with breast cancer, as reported in The Breast Cancer Prevention Bible (Macmillan 1997). The dye para-phenylenediamine (PPED), used in virtually every commercial permanent and semipermanent product appears to be the culprit. It was shown in 1986 to be carcinogenic to the breast following oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, precisely as these products are used by women. Further evidence of the cancer risk from hair dye use comes from studies of hairdressers that have provided clear evidence both men and women are at heavily increased risk for bladder and other cancers. Finally, hair dyes may also pose a risk to children whose mothers used them shortly prior to conception or during pregnancy."

6. I'm toast.
I'm on at least two decades of hair dye. No breast implants, but I've been pissed off at mother nature for betraying my childhood hair color in favor of some dumbass mousy non-color since I was 18. She yanked it from me when I was 13.

Go figure, my eldest son was born with my childhood hair color and has held on to it for 11 years now. If it goes ass-flat brown in the next year or two he'll follow my lead. If he hangs on to it I'll be jealous as hell.

3. I think that many men dye their hair when they get older too
My grandfather did as does my father and they aren't/weren't guys that go/went to great lengths on their appearance. I see many professionaly men over 40 with non gray hair and assume that many of them dye it as well.
Women probably dye their hair more often then men, especially before turning gray.
As for me, I have never dyed my hair but probably will when I go noticeably gray.

4. Good thing I like my hair color just the way it is...
And breast implants? Never...

When I was a nursing student, during my surgical rotation, I saw an operation where a woman was getting implants...

They looked awful, and painful...

The breasts were stretched beyond belief, and I thought they just looked gross...

Plus when they leak...:scared:

I like myself, lumps and all, just the way I am...

7. yes INDEED
I'm still a natural blonde at age 50 and no gray hair yet (and I see nothing wrong with gray hair and believe it would be fine). And implants - it just boggles my mind that women would elect to have friggin bags implanted into their chest wall - you are correct, it is GROSS

5. One of the "safe" alternatives has lead in it?
:wtf:

I've been dying my hair since I was 13. I've read the risks before and obviously I'm not convinced but haven't recent news headlines shown us that lead is in too damn many products?

8. I just can't let my hair go gray
I'm in my mid-40's and am at least 70% gray. It's not pretty gray, it's wiry and nasty.

9. Yeah, mine is an ugly gray too.
And unfortunately, I started getting too much of it in my thirties, so I've been getting it colored ever since. And from what my roots look like before I get back to the hairdresser's, I get the impression my head would be all gray if I didn't color it. And it seems to me that whenever a woman has gray hair, she is looked at as an old lady, even if she doesn't have a wrinkle.
