Here's how much of a loser I am...
Edited on Mon Sep-03-07 08:26 PM by bbernardini
I just wrote to XM Radio's traffic people to complain about the way they pronounce "route" on the Philadelphia traffic channel. They always say it with an "ow" sound (like "Ow! That hurts!) instead of saying "root." This is particularly noticeable when they speak of the "Blue Route," as I have NEVER NEVER NEVER heard anybody say "Blue Route" with an "ow" sound.

I wouldn't normally say anything, but the various wedding and casino gigs I play, I use the traffic station a lot, and it just started driving me nuts. Made it pretty clear that the people giving the reports were a) not from around here, and b) most likely in the XM studio in Washington, D.C., reading the report off a computer.

So, that's how much of a loser I am.

On edit: I can't believe I passed up the opportunity to plug the band once again.

6. New Englanders say "root"
Root 93, Root 3, Root 128. We also forget to differentiate between interstates, US Highways, and state highways.

Of course, this is also the part of the country where you can go north and south at the same time thanks to overlapping highway designations. The most infamous example is down by Gillette Stadium.
