A Question for the Technologically Minded Among Us |
|
I was at my grandmother's house last night. She wanted to play this Johnny Cash CD that she loves. Anyway, she has one of those really old CD players. The kind where the laser is on a handle and you have to actually place it on the CD by hand. (I haven't seen any like this at the store. Weird, huh?) So we listened to the CD, but it sounded somewhat awful--like there were strange scratches during the song. I wondered if maybe the CD was dirty. I tried cleaning it, but it was hard to do. The CD wasn't really shiny at all--it was black. AND it wasn't terribly smooth either. She must have had this CD for a LONG time, because the hole in the middle was WAY bigger than it should have been. She was still able to rig something up though, so that it still played.
Any ideas on how to improve the sound?

apply putty over the black area in order to fill in the bumps and make it nice and shiny for the laser

Next thing you'll know she'll pull an old eight-track player out of the old Ford out back.

4. "old eight-track player" |
|
Isn't that redundant? By the time I was old enough to start buying my own music, eight-tracks were pretty much gone. But I had (older) cousins who had lots of 'em. I've been tempted to buy one at an antique store, just so I could say I have one! Maybe someday...

5. I don't think they lasted very long.... sort like beta max VCRs... |
|
Lordy, I sure don't know what you'd do with the 8-track... Maybe you should opt for the Victrola wind-up, instead....LOL

11. Perhaps the OP should change the tonearm on that turntable to... |
|
...a baby's arm holding an apple.
