My daughter started Kindergarten today...
that's impossible!! How can she be in Kindergarten already??

I mentioned before that she is attending a "Spanish immersion" program -- it is for non-Spanish speaking children. The teacher only speaks to the children in Spanish. She will be fluent in Spanish by 3rd grade.

Anyhow, we walked her into her class and got to hang out for about 10 minutes. The children were so cute. I can't wait for her to get home so I can hear about her day!

2. How sweet - I remember those days
I remember when my daughter graduated from kindergarten - the kids all wore little cardboard mortorboards and sang the song, "Great Oaks From Little Acorns Grow." And I cried.

I'm misty just thinking about it - she's 25 and married now.

3. my daughter started today, too
she seemed a bit shy for about 10 minutes, then had no problems waving bye bye to my wife and me.

and yesterday, she got her first loose tooth.

And, the day before yesterday, she got home from being in China for 2 1/2 weeks.

8. my wife is also a teacher, and my daughter just got her
teaching certificate and is on the hunt for a position, and I taught for a number of years.

We are also involved with our granddaughter's school life. She just entered 1st grade this year so we got to relive those kindergarten years with her last year. That was a whole lot of fun. Walking her to school. Talking to her teacher. Going to all the extra things - like Christmas shows, the fund-raisers, etc.

It is great that they allow and encourage grandparents to also get involved!

9. My son started today too.
He was so shy when we dropped him off, but he ended the day with tales of his new friends and how he didn't even learn anything. :)

10. I just spoke with my daughter and she is disappointed that she didn't
have any homework!

She was also disappointed that all of the books are in Spanish, as she is quite a reader! I'm sure that once she gets used to how things are done, she will really enjoy it.

They are so cute at this age, aren't they?

12. When my daughter was in preschool and my son in 2nd grade,
she used to get so mad that she didn't have homework. So, we'd have to buy her those little workbooks that had things like letter-tracing, draw lines to match two objects, color in the circles one color and the squares another, etc. etc. She's going into 2nd grade (starts tomorrow) and my son is going to be in 5th -- his last year of elementary school.

15. They really are! I used to teach little art classes when I was in high school
and the kindergarten age kids were the CUTEST! They are so open and affectionate and sweet.

13. That is crazy! I don't get this mid-August start date stuff.
I hope your daughter's school has air conditioning -- especially in Georgia.

16. Good luck to the little one
and kudos on exposing your child to a new language early in life. It will benefit her greatly later.

17. Congrats!! That's a big milestone for both of you!
I remember my youngest lost her first tooth on her very first day of kindergarten. She was a big hit with her classmates that day! :D

Now she's in 5th grade and my oldest is an 8th grader. It goes fast, my friend.

Enjoy the ride. :pals: :toast:
