"The Vanity of Human Wishes"
at 16 I dreamed of a bushy beard and a purple Ford souped up deuce 4 on the floor able to outrun any cop alive
or drifting change in my jeans from town to town wowing the girls bad man James Dean back from the dead Brando on a hog
16 and here I am at 26 teaching English not even a mustachio to tickle my wife

1. nice, but not one of the powerful ones |
|
that grabs you and really makes you think.
But, yes, daydreams and fantasies make fools of us all.

4. Alright, but don't be surprised if it tanks as hard as my "powerful" ones usually do. |

6. Yeah. But also, there's what Don Marquis said: |
|
"If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; but if you really make them think, they'll hate you."

7. You would hope that would not be the case here |
|
but unfortunately, that quote has been proven correct countless times.

11. That's kind of a sad poem |

I'm happy to say that at 46, I've lived most of my wishes. And continue to do so. I think sometimes people are too careful for their own good. :hi:

17. Heh. I don't have a copyright date for this one, or we could |
|
find out when that word was last popular as a slang term.

I reminds me a little of "Old Man" by Neil Young. (24 and so much more) For me 26 was 20 years ago, but I remember feeling stuck in life at the time. I wasn't, time proved that, and I'm still not. (Of course it helps the kids are out of the house, one of the few advantages to being a too-young breeder)
