I am now completely and totally a California resident
After a year (I will pay no tax before it is due) I now have California license plates on my car.

1. How are you liking it?
Personally, I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

10. LOL -- specifically?
My pet peeves were the traffic, weather, people and culture. ;)

11. I mostly like the weather (this past week excluded)
The traffic is enough to make anyone lose all sanity.

Where I came from did not have a whole lotta culture, so the lack of it here is not all that unfamiliar.

The people that you actually meet and get to know are great, but if they do not know you, they have no qualms about being nasty.

15. Even the people I met were assholes.

CaliforniaPeggy excepted, of course. ;)

For me, the weather is nice -- I just didn't want it to be that way the whole year. That's probably why it didn't feel like four years there, since I could never tell when seasons changed.

17. I think it kind of helps that I have children and have gotten involved in PTA
Kind of makes for a community feeling.

I totally hear you about the seasons thing. It does not feel like I have been here a whole year.

2. Hey! It took me that long
and four visits to the DMV to get mine!

Welcome to the club!

9. Took me one visit to the DMV
One visit to the smogcheck only station to find that although I passed the emissions portion of the test, I failed the "vapor leak" portion, one visit to the mechanic to fix the vaporleak, one more visit to the smogcheck station, and one visit to AAA to finish the registration process.

Nothing like a streamlined process.

The good news is that my check engine light is no longer on.

5. And you're bitching about the weather!
True sign of a California resident.

When I first moved out here, I could not get over the people who'd complain about how it was "freezing" when it was less than 60 degrees. Now I do it, too. Bitch when its hot, bitch when it rains when in reality, we have the most gorgeous weather. :P

12. Funny, those kind of people exist in Portland, Oregon, too! Slightly different slant...

I've heard Californians who hate it here -- too overcast and too cold and they (might) have to occasionally carry a raincoat or an umbrella. They also might have had to take a cut in salary to live here.

I've heard that Oregonians are unfriendly and cliquish -- or too chummy and want to be in your business all the time -- or too dumb or stupid to understand anything -- or too snobbish and uppity.

I've heard that the driving here is awful ((WTF?) -- roads too clogged, people going too fast, or too slow -- hotdogging in and out of lanes and never signaling.

Oh, yes, you might have to wait at the Division of Motor Vehicles for up to an hour because of those "ILLEGALS WHO CAN'T EVEN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE WHO WANT TO GET DRIVERS LICENSES OR ROAD TESTS."

Believe me, I've heard it all. SOME people are intolerant, judgemental, and just totally disgusting, wherever they live. But not you or me.

Oh, I love this quote when asked about where I have lived (FL, CA, NC, NY, MA, OR):

"I TRY TO BLOOM WHERE I AM PLANTED."

19. Funny you should mention it
I had my first "official" (I have felt rumblings that were not backed up by the seismologists) earthquake a few days ago. The 4.7 in Lake Elsinore hit us at about 3.5.
