It's so wierd when a friend you have respect for hangs out with total assholes.
My buddy Josh, who's an interesting and neat guy (Has three degrees and speaks Arabic), calls me up last night to hang out and he says he's got a buddy over I should meet cause he's a decent guy. So, I figure, "sounds god" and head over.
As soon as I meet this guy I'm like, "What the fuck?"
Buddy makes me a rye and coke and hands it to me in a fucking mug with what looked like coke all over the outside... upon closer inspection it was dirt. I look at the guy's hands.. he hadn't even washed them since getting back from work. Needless to say I didn't drink my drink.
Then we decide to go out. And on the walk to the pub the guy is saying things like, "Hey sister, what's happening?" In the most creepy way to passing women and stuff. And just being a greasy tool in general. We get to the pub. Being Tuesday night I wasn't out to actively attempt to meet women, but this dude was STILL like "Girl away."
It was so bad, a girl I was talking to while playing pool with her boyfriend says to me, "This friend you're hanging out with is ruining YOUR chances with any woman in this place." I was like, "He ain't my friend, I just met him." So, my two buddies eventually left the bar and I wasn't going with them, I'd had enough of fucknuts. So, I stayed and apologized to a bunch of people for the conduct of the guy. And met some nice people with whom I finished the night with.
But, my buddy Josh is a really smart guy and very solid. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why he hangs out with this fucking guy, let alone thinks he's "cool."
Strange strange

4. As someone who is often "that guy" and also has been told...
"the fact that X is your friend makes me respect you less" I think it's total bullshit. If I'm lucky enough to run into somebody whose company I enjoy (which is a rarity indeed in this world of assholes), I'm not going to sit around thinking "oh, but I don't know if my other friends will approve" Your buddy Josh obviously connects to Mr. Scumbag in some way and that's cool.

5. I've hung out with you, and you're nothing like this guy
This is the kind of guy I wouldn't even let in my apartment for fear he'd steal something. I haven't lost respect for my friend, Josh, by any means. I just can't figure out what the hell he sees in this guy.

6. It's worse when a friend you have respect for is DATING a total asshole
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 06:10 PM by Rob H.
I have a friend who fits that description and until she met the guy she's currently seeing she seemed really level-headed, but now it's like she's from a whole 'nother planet. I think she thinks she can change him. Yeah. Good luck with that--I'm sure now that you've been "working on the relationship" for over a year he'll magically transform into the man you've always wanted any second now.... :eyes:
