So who else here got fucked over by Steve Jobs?
68 days after releasing it, a 33% price drop? That is total bullshit!

And for you Apple apologists: my home machine is a G4 15" laptop, and if Bill Gates pulled something like this, you'd be on his ass like flies on shit!

1. Yes, there would be an outrage. But Apple people are different.

I guess ol' Stevie felt that a 400% profit on a million units was enough.

2. Anyone who lines up for the latest toy deserves the ripoff they get.
Spotting the inevitable "Pre-Holiday Season, 108 shopping days before X-mas Price-Drop" should have been a no-brainer, but some MUST have the latest toy soonest.

There is nothing in an I-Phone (except for the MP3 Player) that I don't get with my cell and laptop. I tell you the same thing I told my daughter about one of those phones-with-a-keyboard: when it's your money, feel free to waste it any way you see fit.

7. I have patience...I can wait.
Took me YEARS to buy off on DVD and I am an absolute movie ADDICT.

Learned my lessons with BETA and LaserDisk.

3. Apple's pricing scheme is bizarre to the extreme.
There are few consumer products that I can think of that retailers are -never- allowed to mark down prices for any reason. Hell, the (ahem) discount the local university computer shop gets is a measly five bucks. Nice, eh?

4. Well, that's a fairly common practice.
High demand will drive up prices. Once the highest demand is over, the price stabilizes lower. If companies don't do that, they are leaving money on the table.

With almost any electronic device, you know to wait about 6 months after release before purchasing. Some people are willing to pay more to have it first though.

6. Actually, Apple is not known for that ...
if you went into an Apple and asked for the price of a machine on January 1, it would be the same price on August 30. As the technology progresses and they created newer machines, yes, but certainly not this soon in the game.

8. They may be joining the rest of the electronics industry though.
I really can't blame them though. It's a lot of money to turn down, but they do risk pissing people off by doing it so soon.

9. Competition... There are phones out there that do the same, or better for a Cheaper price
When I was in the States a few weeks back, Walmart was offering the Samsung Blackjack with a Cingular contract for $189. I have had my Blackjack for about 4 months and it can kick any iPhone's a$$ for speed,,, as iPhone doesn't do true 3G network.

Oh, and can your iPhone serve as a surrogate 3G modem for your laptop? Ummmm, I didn't think so.
