What is/was the name of the high school you went to?
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 11:10 AM by mvd
I went to Lansdale Catholic High School. I recommend it. It was the college choice I think I made a mistake on.

If you went to more than one high school, mention all.

They generally keep discipline and have high academic standards. I don't recognize many of the teachers there now, but if they are as good as most of the ones I had, the school is a good choice. Just try to have your child ignore all the anti-choice stuff they spout.

In my time they called them Comprehensive Schools. My secondary education was spent at Glebelands School in Cranleigh, England. http://www.glebelands.surrey.sch.uk/

71. But why do you care?
"Oh, you went to some high school I've never heard of halfway across the country... FASCINATING! Did they have a cafeteria?" Why would ANYONE care?

Again, it just seems like a pointless question for any purpose BUT to provide another bit of identifying information to those with prying eyes...

It's just a friendly Lounge question, of which there are a lot. I wouldn't have mentioned my own high school if I was thinking about prying. I see no problem here. Talk about overreacting.

80. I didn't say it was your purpose to pry, but why expose others?
MySpace is filled with these dumbass "surveys" that people blithely fill out listing their full name, date of birth, sibling full names, parents, schools, hometowns, and on and on... and MySpace is filled with dumbasses that complete all that information and post it for the world to see. Mostly its just people killing time (and murdering success) but that doesn't mean the information won't fall into the wrong hands. And people wonder why child/sexual predators are cruising MySpace. I'm sure the identity thieves love those "surveys" as well, especially when they find someone old enough to have a credit score worth exploiting.

We know the fr33ps troll this site trying to find any information they can to fuck with our lives. And beyond the fr33ps, what about the Ministry of Love? Call me paranoid, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong.

All I'm saying is that this kind of information IS somewhat sensitive, so why make it easy for the bad guys to fill in the blanks and connect the dots?

And you don't get to know someone by knowing the name of their high school (unless maybe they are from your hometown)... you get to know them by the STORIES of when they were in high school (among many other things). Why not ask "what was your favorite class in high school?" or "describe your craziest teacher" or "is there anything you learned in high school that you remember and never use?" or something open-ended with more potential for fun, and less potential for being used against us in a court of "law."

Besides, if SOMEONE didn't overreact, it wouldn't be DU.

Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 04:18 PM by mvd
In my opinion, there is no point in worrying. I can't imagine worrying about every little piece of info. I've posted. If you don't want to post, don't, and the many who don't care will post.

If people didn't post social topics, it wouldn't be the Lounge. Turning around your statement.

We had great music programs. Being in orchestra literally got me thru the torments of high school. I was in my own world -- classical music.

How the Pasadena district got two high schools NOT in their City Limits beats me.
Dobie High is in Houston. South Houston I think was in Houston, before Pasadena expanded, and some of their students lived in the CITY of South Houston.

Duhhh.....

I'm still in Houston too, although on the non-stinky side in SBISD.

163. I could never have endured an all-boys' school
To this day, I'm amazed at how my friend made it through three years at an all-boy Catholic school, out in the middle of nowhere in the Arkansas River Valley.

53. Bridgewater-Raritan High School West
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 02:18 PM by TommyO
It doesn't exist anymore, neither does our cross-town rival, Bridgewater-Raritan High School East. The physical buildings are still there, with many additions, and it's still a high school, but now it's just Bridgewater-Raritan High School after both schools were combined into one.

http://www.brrsd.k12.nj.us/brhs/hsindex.html

Edited to add: Whose brilliant idea was it to put a multi-building, open walkway campus in New Jersey? California, sure, but NJ?

61. Andrew Warde, now Fairfield Warde
in the Conn. town of the same name. Crosstown archrival Ludlowe closed at one point, thus Warde became the one and only Fairfield High School. :bounce: Alas, we failed to scatter enough lime over Ludlowe's grave, so they reopened it as "Fairfield Ludlowe", making us "Fairfield Warde". Good thing the name of the town isn't "Psycho"!

Next up: Grove School in Madison, Conn. A self-described "therapeutic boarding school". Need I really go into details? :eyes:

And finally, The University School in Bridgeport. Described by Mom as "a cross between 'Grease' and 'Revenge of the Nerds'". A large proportion of the student body had been expelled from Central High. Factoid: we lived directly across the street from it, giving me a shorter walk to class at day school than I had had at boarding school, where my building, the Green House, was a couple hundred yards down a wooded path from the main campus.
