PICK YOUR BATTLES!
Which battles would you pick?

The fight not to be discriminated against based on the color of your skin?

The fight not to pay taxes yet have no representative in the government taxing you?

The fight to not have to show your receipt on the way out of a store?

CHOOSE!

or...

MAKE UP YOUR OWN!

But you can't battle your nose...or something like that.

No, this is the next Rosa Parks we're lookin at!

I'm still laughing at that!

10. That's an artificial choice.
In the real world, we should be fighting against any violation of civil rights, including unreasonable searches and arresting people for not producing identification.

17. I haven't heard many cases of people being discriminated
against because they had a suntan that they could not have gotten locally. Perhaps the skin color that you have in mind is a proxy for ancestry. In many cases, ancestry is thought of in terms of geographical location, but that can get controversial in cases where some members of more than one religio-ethnic group claim entitlement to the same territory. For example, who exactly are the "true native people" of Kashmir?

Both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons, so that territorial dispute could get ugly. Recall the notion of nuclear winter. Will it save us from global warming? That is probably not something to count on.
:scared:
:nuke:

Note: I think that a very brief OP such as the one for this thread is appropriate for the Lounge. Of course, I can't guarantee that my participation in this thread won't provoke results that will get this thread kicked from the civil Lounge down into the GD flame-war dungeon.
;)

26. Growing up in the '60's we had a next door neighbor named...
Mr. Battles. Scary old guy. One day, I got up the nerve to say hi. He called his wife outside. She brought out tea and cookies. We sat on their porch and chatted a while and then said our goodbyes, before I left he gave me a silver dollar.

He never failed to say hi after that and his wife made the best sugar cookies. I pick Mr. and Mrs. Battles.

Peace.

28. The right not to be held against my will without probable cause.
I may not choose to pick a fight with a store over a stupid policy, but I'm not going to defend a store who detains someone else when they choose that battle. Just because it seems ridiculous to you doesn't matter one whit. The principle that fight is based on is a big deal for many people. Just because they don't see things the way you do doesn't make them foolish. If stores don't have the legal authority to hold people against their will without evidence of a crime, then when they do it anyway they should be held accountable.
