Theres a person I use to work with. A co-worker of mine is still friends with this jerk. Him and I use to get into about politics.He is a nut, a Bush defender, and a wannabe freeper.Today, he came in to visit this co worker. Seems like the only thing we can talk about and seem to have in common are movies.For someone who is so anti Hollywood he really like films and actually has pretty good taste in them as well. Well, one of the few working actors today we both respect is Natalie Portman.We both think Natalie is not only a great actress we both feel she has a old Hollywood quality which is lacking in so many younger stars today.Well, he came in almost in tears telling me that he hopes this is not rue but fears it is. I thought something bad had happened to her. Turns out Natalie Portman has done a nude scene in a movie. I could not believe this was it. Had to be something more. Nope, he was devastated.
He informed me that he posted on a message boards and has begun a online campaign to turn all her fans against her for making this choice. I asked him what his problem was. I feel this country has such a prudish attitude towards nudity. I told him he is an ignorant fool. Only a moron equates nudity with sex. I love nudity,both male and female. Anyway, I went home and checked out one of the sites he posted on and sure enough, I found it. heres what he wrote.
"I hope it is not true, from all of my heart. Why would Natalie, a serious girl who started her career so well end up in such dirty movies, for what reason... For working with Anderson? Anderson is a nobody if he makes such movies, he is more shallow than his comedies."
"Would you be alright to see your girlfriend, your kid, your sister or your mom doing nude scenes? You guys don't understand something: these people need to have normal lives, like you and me. As you and I don't go naked at our jobs so they don't need to. I can't remember a movie with a nude scene where the scene was really needed and added something important, if the movie is good and you cut that scene it still remains good. There is nothing you can do nude and you can't express with clothes on, even sensuality, not that I promote it, it's only an example -- unless one really wants to be a porn star like Garcia Bernal, he indeed has to show his genitals. You don't need to do nude scenes and it's only bad for you and many others. You have to understand this.
The main reasons we have so many nude scenes nowadays are:
1. We live in a world marked by sin, most people live in strange on-off relationships, they like to see naked bodies on the screen, they like to get sexually excited, and they identify with the story.
2. Most directors are actually filthy and they invent such scenes to see beautiful actresses naked.
3. Sometimes actresses want to play nude because they are beautiful and want to show off. It's wrong, and they very probably can't find someone to really love them that way. What they need is to be loved by just one, not seen by thousands.
The fact so many people are bothered by nude scenes should give you a hint it is something wrong with it."
"I made mistakes in my life, some of them small, some of them big, you guys made some mistakes too, and these girls also made a mistake when they played nude, it's just that easy to understand. It's not about the century we are living in, there are some values that remain in every century, every culture, and it has to be this way otherwise we are lost in a Universe where everything is relative. There are some things about fashion which change, or taste, and there are others that will always remain good, like loving and helping and respecting each other, or always remain bad, like envy or the ambition to dominate.
Freedom doesn't mean the absence of rules, it means a good set of rules that control your environment in a way that allows you to express yourself or to experience something good. The train runs the best when it stays on its track. If one day it gets bored and at full speed it says "I want more freedom" imagine what happens to it and to people inside. I don't believe in playing nude when your family suffers. I don't believe in anything you do to satisfy some needs you have if you make your dears suffer. One of the values that crosses centuries is to sacrifice yourself for your dear ones, I believe in that, and everyone I saw doing it was a very happy person, even if was going through tough times.
This is actually real love, to be able to sacrifice yourself for the others. The idea promoted by Hollywood is something like a feeling, or magnetic waves, it is simply pleasure, an experience, and they make the shallow step to most of the time identify it with sexuality. Whereas love, in every form of it, including sexuality, means unity, like rivers when they unite, and this is why it is always about commitment, at least for life, or forever. If you want to understand, understand, some people grow old and still don't. Those who do understand are the right ones.
Anyway, I am at a loss for words. I told this co-worker NEVER bring this SOB to work again. There are just no words.
