Anyone else watch "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" on Bravo tonight?
I didn't make it all the way through because my sister called, but --- if you watched, what did you think?

I love Tim Gunn, but it seemed a bit stilted to me.

2. I watched about 10 minutes of it....

I would have watched all of it but my husband wanted to pop in the West Wing dvd's and I can never say no to WW. Besides, I know Bravo will run it again.

The part I watched is when the female co-star went through this woman's underwear drawer. Tim stood back out of respect and then they discussed the importance of underwear that fits right. The female co-star then took the woman to an upscale lingerie store so she can try on different bras until she found the one that worked best for her body. The store owner said that bottom of the bra should rest on the same level with the middle of your arm between your elbow and shoulder. The next segment started with Tim showing the woman different celebrities for "style inspiration". He picked celebrities that had a similar body type. That's when I popped the dvd in.

3. I watched some of it ....
and learned that I only like Tim Gunn in small doses.

Also, the producers/writers of that show suck.

7. yeah, the writers/producers
seem like they're absent. The show is 'off' somehow, I can't quite figure out what is wrong except that nothing seems to really flow.

6. eh.
It just hasn't "clicked" yet, I don't know if it will. Feels almost too much like a poor cousin to "What Not to Wear" for some reason, even though Tim has soooo much class. I think it's kinda weird that he gives the women jewelry, too. Last night there was a sneak peak, and the show gave the woman a string of black Tahitian pearls. Tonight Tim gave the woman's husband a diamond ring (a band) because the husband couldn't afford a ring when they got engaged. That just seemed WEIRD to me.

I've since managed to see most of tonight's episode - Bravo's run it for three straight hours.

8. I watched it but don't know if I will again.

The woman they were trying to help was pretty insufferable and whined all the time. I'm not impressed with labels but I know some people are. I thought her Bill Blass dress/coat was awful. I don't think it was a very good choice for her daughter, either. Judging by the look on the girl's face, she didn't appear to be too impressed.

I love Tim Gunn...he's such a kind man and has a good heart. If he gets some people who really want his help, the show might improve. I would love to have a private consult with him!

:)

oops, edited to add that the show I watched was the preview last night.

10. yeah, I saw the preview last night, too, and was
thoroughly underwhelmed. Why do women freak out so much when stylists cut off frayed, fried hair? Wasn't sure if I'd watch tonight, but thought I'd give it another try. Wasn't wowed.

11. I'm sorry to say that I don't think you missed much.
Worth trying to catch a rerun, I'd be interested in what you thought. But I'm just disappointed in it.

Tim Gunn, however, is okay...just a bit different. :) And Stacy and Clinton....the best.

14. It seemed way too staged
From the WaPo review:
Some people are simply too tasteful to star in reality television. This is the problem with the erudite Tim Gunn, the thoughtful fashion consigliere from "Project Runway," who has been cast as a makeover guru in "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style," debuting at 10 tonight on Bravo.

Reality TV requires that its stars be big personalities who talk loudly, nonstop and without regard to whether they're making any sense. Voices of reason are best as supporting characters. And Gunn comes across as an adamantly reasonable man.

My wife thought having the husband give a ring to his wife was a bit too personal.

16. I liked the show
Then again, I like Tim Gunn. Unfortunately, the show probably won't work, judging by the comments here.

Tim's too intelligent and thoughful to do reality TV. Like another poster here, I told my husband that if Mr. Gunn wanted to show up at our house and throw out everything in my closet, I'd not only let him, I'd put on whatever it was he thought I should wear. His taste is impeccable.

Julie

p.s. The woman in the "preview" show? I wanted to SLAP her.
