After one year of surfing, and general indolence I got a job... Sigh.. |
|
I got out of the commodities game last September due to stress, and the general bad karma of trading things like crude oil, natural gas, unleaded gasoline etc. During the last year I've took up silversmithing, and started a Native American Jewelry business which does make money but is a little sporadic. Yesterday I interview for a progressive cause fund raising company and today was my first day. Now instead of being a surf-bum (a crappie one at that), I'm just another working schmoe.. Oh woe is me..
On the other hand I guess I could pony-up and donate to DU with my first checky-check..

Oh, good for you, sweetie!
A progressive cause fund raising company doesn't sound too awful.....I hope!
And you will never be a working schmoe!
Congrats!
Enjoy your money!

Thanks, the job is pretty cool. The campaign we are working on combats global warming, and in a couple of weeks I will start on a project that advocates the National Park system. The people that I work with are very cool but pretty young, and wildly idealist.. Not bad conditions, but have highlighted how jaded I've let myself become.. Now to crank back up the optimism I've let wane..
The money is not much, but the small financial cushion will be cool.
P.S. do you know if KitchenWitch posted her frybread recipe?

I don't think she did...
But I'm sure she would be happy to PM it to you...
However, she may have gone to bed already...

I think I missed some of your vacation pics. Did you go through Bozeman at all on your road trip?
I'm looking at going back to work, too, though I'll need to hunker down and really rejoin the trenches for a while, I'm afraid. I was a corporate lawyer, and got out for the same reasons you did. I'm looking to go back to law for a few years (not corporate, though, hopefully something less stressful) to get some $$ stashed away and then go for a land conservation job...
I know how you feel. I hope you like your new job!

After rolling out of the Sawthooth's we beelined for Yosemite bypassing the Bozeman area. I've got billions of pics and will post some this weekend.
The job is pretty cool but low-level face to face canvasing. Still I'll be able to sleep the sleep of the innocent again. Peace, P-b

have you ever thought about trying to sell via Robert Redford's Sundance Catalog? He likes products with a western feel and selects/promotes artisans; you might check out the website www.sundancecatalog.com
