It's acetaminophen with something added to make it stronger. I'm taking it for endometriosis pain, at my doc's recommendation. It kicks ass!

The other night at bedtime, I had a rip-roaring headache. I took an Advil Liqui-gel, and it seemed like in just moments, I felt the pain begin to subside.
Years ago, I remember seeing Percogesic advertised, but I thought perhaps it had been taken off the market since then.
I have never found acetaminophen by itself to be very useful for pain, but it's nice to know that there is an OTC product out there with a little kick to it.

7. Advil Liqui-gel always works quickly for me. |
|
If you take it on an empty stomach, it seems to work even faster. I even chew the capsules to break them open, then wash them down quickly (because the liquid tastes terrible). Then they work within minutes. Acetaminophen has no effect on me at all.

10. Before they made the liquigels I used to chew the pills, |
|
because that made it work faster. But the pills also tasted terrible. I guess it's not necessary with the liquigels, because they dissolve quickly in the stomach.

You've got a crew of us here who could tell you about real painkillers. :P
Though, I hope you never, ever need any of the stronger stuff. Seriously. Be well.

13. I'm in the pansy division with my pain killers |
|
but I was just informed by my doctor that the pain and discomfort from my kick-ass surgery won't go away, and I will have to just live with in. Percocet is my poison of choice at the moment and it works well in small doses. It helps jump start me in the morning, and helps me get to sleep at night.
ThomCat, I wish I could dream away your pain.

But you really have to look hard to find it. I use it for muscle spasms. It makes you sleepy, but it's better than having your elbow or knee implanted permanently by your ear.

I'll squirrel away for next time. :hi: mycritters. Hope you feel better soon.
I used to use Advil and like everyone says, it works quickly. But I stopped because of the warnings about kidney/liver function.
For now, I've gone back to plain old aspirin, not only for pain relief but also for it's anti-inflammatory properties. But if aspirin ever fails to do the job, I'll look for the procogesic
