CRAP!
I can't post in groups because my donor status expired and I have actually ZERO dollars. My cost of living is slightly higher than my income this year. Next year we will get both a property tax reduction (because we qualify for some kind of star rating thing) and I will get a raise, so my cost of living will probably be a tiny bit lower than my income. But I seriously have NO MONEY until next year. No dinners, no movies, brown bag lunches. I can handle all that. But I wanted to ask for a good frosting recipe in the cooking and Baking forum! Wahh!

Anyway, I am baking a train cake for my sons birthday, and it's going to have all kinds of cookies and candies stuck to it for wheels and what-not. So I wanted a good sticky stand-up frosting recipe.

Maybe next paycheck I can scrape together 5 bucks.

My life is great. It's really no big deal not to have money when you have everything else. And I know it's just for this year because we moved into our new home past the deadline to apply for the tax thingy. And my career is going well. I am as sure as a person can be that my income will grow each year.

But yeah, it would be nice to have 5 extra bucks when you need it.

Oh well. Loads of people have WAY worse problems. I will be headed for my lovely home soon.

Goodnight.

7. Royal icing makes a spectacular glue.
http://www.joyofbaking.com/RoyalIcing.html

(Note: Even though raw egg whites are usually pretty safe, I'd use pasteurized eggs. I've never made this with the powder.)

I'm planning to make a dolphin-jumping-out-of-a-pool cake (if that makes sense), and I'll be using royal icing for the glue and detail (buttercream for the main frosting, though, because I prefer the taste and it's easier to spread over a large surface.)

Good luck...and post pictures!

9. Butter Cream Frosting is a good start, Yum
I saw this from the C&B forum and thought I would offer my two cents worth. While Royal Icing is used a lot as a glue, especially for gingerbread houses. Since this is going to be for a birthday party then it will probably be eaten pretty quickly so therefore the Butter Cream will more than likely be a wonderful addition to the cake, and might act as a good glue.:shrug:

And who doesn't like Butter Cream?
This frosting lends itself well to adding food color to if you plan go using different colors for the train.

Simple Recipe:

1 stick Butter
Powder Sugar
Cream
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream Butter, add Sugar, adjust with Cream to make into a spreadable consistency. I generally add enough sugar to make a thick frosting and then pour a splash of Cream. I have used Milk as well, if you don't have any Cream on hand.

Good Luck, and Happy B'Day to your son:party:

12. My marshmallow icing came out fantastic
You `could easily stick stuff onto it..

Here's a recipe.. It sounds hard, but it's not..

Just ber sure you use a BIG bowl when you combine the hot syrup mizture into the egg whites....It grows..

* 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
* 2/3 cup boiling water
* 2 egg whiles
* 1 teaspoon vanilla

PREPARATION:
Combine granulated sugar and cream of tartar in saucepan. Add boiling water and stir until sugar is dissolved. Place saucepan over heat and bring mixture to a boil. Boil rapidly, without stirring, for about 10 minutes or until syrup forms a soft ball in cold water, or until candy thermometer indicates 240 degrees.

Remove from heat while testing. Beat egg whites until stiff. Pour hot syrup in fine stream over egg whites, beating constantly with electric mixer until frosting is cool and of proper spreading consistency. Stir in vanilla.
Frosts a 2-layer cake.
