[BlueIris]

"Eye Bank"

—for Nathan Leopold

The building is large and
lit up at night where they
kept your eyes for the time
after you died, under glass,
looking up into space. White
flowers with colored centers.
Someone was chosen to ride
with them, to see them safely
to that far away city, through
the doors of the hospital,
into the room, into, finally,
a woman from a Corn-Belt
American town. They would
not rest until your sight was
her sight, until she raised
her head and the eyes swam,
taking in every plane of light,
and her mother stepped back,
hand curled over her mouth,
and said That man killed a
boy now my daughter can see.
