Officemax has a deal on a 24" LCD monitor. |
|
$299, Soyo brand, uses a P-MVA flat panel (not TN, as some have guessed based on the price alone). 8-bit (true 16.7 million colors), 6ms refresh rate, 1900x1200 res, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 500 nits... it is no frills, meaning if you're looking for more than VGA and DVI inputs you're going to be SOL. And the stand is not height adjustable.

1. I'd love to upgrade my computer monitor to something that size. |

3. One other note, for a 'no frills' monitor, it comes with both VGA and DVI cables. |
|
:wow:
Most monitors don't include a DVI cable, and they are highly recommended for any monitor 20" or larger.

4. Sounds like a good deal. |
|
I am not familiar with the Soyo brand and the refresh rate could be better but all in all it seems like a great price. I just got my 28" and WOW. I am in geek heaven! Of course I had to go ahead and upgrage to a new direct x 10 compatible video card and am eagerly awaiting the UPS truck. Yup, 8800 ultra...........

5. They've been around in the past, making motherboards and such... |
|
Not a remarkable company, but the flat panel used for the aforementioned panel is also used by BenQ - a company that makes high quality monitors.
I'm using the Soyo monitor right now and -- wow -- it is impressive, especially for the price. Again, very basic but as far as M-PVA technology goes, it's a winner.

6. Ok, now I remember seeing Soyo motherboards in the past. |
|
Glad you are happy with it, a bigger screen really does make a difference!

7. Thanks! For graphics editing, |
|
it's best to look at the middle/head on. From looking at an angle, there is a slight increase in brightness. But there's no major was effect like the display on my laptop (which I use for word processing only.)
Gaming is irresistible on this thing. Pity I don't do much of it anymore.
Word processing/internet; it's a no-brainer for the condition of my eyes. B-) My previous monitor (HP F2105, similar to the 21" offering from Gateway as both used the same make/model S-IPV panel) was good for graphics, but for text - especially with cleartype turned on - there was a halo artifact effect surrounding letters like L and T. On the Soyo, it's perfect and crisp.
As only a small number of companies make flat panels for other companies to buy and brand-name, Benq, Soyo, or Cracker Jack can sell them for all I care. What I want to know is the type (TN, M-PVA, S-IPS...)
As for LCD TVs, that's a different story... they're a different beastie altogether. :D
