1. The young lady from season 3 is rather attractive, as well.

2. Gah!
Blonde women, black women (especially Dualla on BSG ) — one by one, my standards are crumbing into dust.

Martha is so much better a character...

6. I wasn't a huge fan of either, but I'd take Martha over Rose in a heartbeat. n/t

7. Martha's weakness is obsessing over Rose and why the Doctor won't pursue her...
Still, when keeping the Doctor in an asexual light, it brings a dimension back to the series sorely missed in its first two years (2005, 2006) - and seems more natural for a companion to long for such a thing than to actually get it.

Plus, Martha can stand on her own without whining every other minute. :D

All of this isn't a dis on Billie Piper, who is a fantastic actress. It's but the character of Rose that grated. Even Mickey, during series 2, was far more amicable and stronger as a companion. (though the series finale did treat him a bit unrealistically...)

8. IMO Rose was getting interesting
I felt the same way about her at first, kinda a flat (I mean in character development no physically :) ) even a bit stereotypical. But I was sorry to see her go because I thought she grew as a character and was becoming interesting, or at least the process of her growth was interesting.

Martha on the other hand started right out as a character with a lot of depth, and now we have to watch the actor grow into the character. She seems to be doing that well though.

10. So which season was it that began last night?
I am confused. They advertised season 3 DVDs with that other person in it.

I only just started watching Doctor Who.

11. Doctor Who is aired in a strange, unfortunate manner.
The UK gets it first. A year later, it shows up on Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi is currently airing Season 3. The Season 3 DVD will come out in November, after Sci-Fi finishes airing it. The Season 1 and Season 2 DVDs are already out. They are relatively expensive ($60-90 dollars for a 13 episode series).

Meanwhile, PBS has a license to re-air the first season. So, if you want to start, PBS is ideal, because it has no commercials.

BBC America has just started airing season 3, as well as Torchwood. Torchwood is Doctor Who's drunk smutty cousin.

There are some British sites that host all of the episodes for free. In addition, the BBC and CBC (in Canada) air full episodes, but you have to have a British or Canadian IP address.

13. Torchwood was pitched in the UK as being a more adult drama...
Unfortunately, some people thought "Adult" meant more intricate and complex plotlines and what they saw was smut. Episode 2 involves a monster that 'devours' orgasms, apparently. The writer of the tripe claimed he was showing sex's influence in society, but I think he was playing into a stereotype so we can get our jollies off from it rather than trying to send up a stereotype or show it what it is.

Blech.

Most UK series do cost more than American ones due to licensing issues between the BBC and Warner Bros (the US distributor). It's also why Classic WHO stories cost so much per individual release.

14. Torchwood = Who Gone Wild
Torchwood's not Masterpiece Theatre by any means, but I think it's fun. I haven't seen the episode you mentioned, but I don't take the show very seriously. The one where they're attacked by cannibals is priceless.

15. I see
I was watching BBC America last night. I started watching Doctor Who on Netflix with Season 1. They have a lot of British TV series you can watch online.

I recorded Torchwood last night.

16. Are you sure you can watch Series 1 online?
Classic Who is on Netflix, but I wasn't aware that you can watch the new series there.

Doctor Who started decades ago, was cancelled in 1989, failed to revive after a movie in the 1990s, and then regenerated in 2005. You might feel differently, but I think the new series (2005, 2006, 2007) should be watched more or less in order.

Torchwood is the Lounge of television shows. Smutty and silly.

17. Yes. It was from the very first show
Only some of the first and second seasons are available, like the first 5 or 6 episodes.

12. Series 3 began on the sci-fi channel a couple months ago...
The full S3 set is due in November, in the UK and the US. I've pre-ordered because it's so damn good! (and I wasn't a big fan of series 1 and 2...)

Actually, DOCTOR WHO was revived in 2005 - having slept for 16 years; the original series went from 1963 to 1989. There was a TV movie made in 1996, but whose canonical status is debated.
