How tall are you?
I ask because the other day I was complaining about being short(i'm 5'5or6) to my mom(who is 5'8) and she tells me that the average height of American women is 5'4. i had a hard time believe this so i googled and sure enough she was right(guess i should listen to her from now on, lol). i don't see many people who are shorter than me so i still have a hard time believing that those figures are correct.

so how tall are you?

6. I'm average height. :)
For a guy, at least.

And no, you're not short. Out of all the girls I've dated, only two of them were over 5'2. One was 5'6, and the other was freakishly tall for a girl and was taller than me whenever she wore heels. Which was amusing, because they would inevitably hurt her feet so she'd start out a date being taller than me, and end it by being shorter than me because she'd taken her shoes off halfway through the night. :)

36. 6'1". I've been over six feet since the age of 11.
I had my growth spurt ridiculously early, Unfortunately, my school had the boneheaded policy of lining up kids for everything based on height. So I was always the last one to get lunch, pick up sports equipment or get on the bus. For a long time, I hated being tall and developed a stoop in an effort to appear shorter. You can only put up with being called "Lurch" so many times before you get the itch to go bowling for Columbine.

Band instruments were allocated by how big you were. Small people got the cool instruments (trumpet, saxaphone, clarinet), while the tall and the fat had to play Sousaphones, baritone horns and tubas. There was no instrument storage for students, so you got to play what you could carry home.

89. 6'2" and I had to deal with the "line up by height" too!
I thought I was the only one! It always sucked being at the end of the line. I didn't get Lurch but I did get Jolly Green Giant. It was tough being a gangly, geeky girl.
Having comments made about your height really screws with your self esteem, even ones made with the best intentions. I never went up to anybody and marveled "Gee, you're FAT!".

124. Okay, you win!
I had to open this thread and scroll thru, cuz I was smugly thinking there could be NO OTHER woman taller than my 6'1" and all the fun/baggage that goes with it.

But I bet I'm older than you. I've been this height since 1969 when I was 14 years old.

And yeah, WTF is up with all these people who have asked me for almost 45 years "How did you get so tall?" Is there any stupider question in the world??

I used to have many sarcastic but also some serious answers. I finally settled on this: "I grew up next to a Nuclear Waste Dump. I guess it had an affect."

Oh, and BTW tall-ees: How many of you experienced actual growing pains? I used to cry and hold my femur, it hurt so much!!

45. 5'5''
I started feeling short in junior high and even more so in high school. I had been one of the taller children in my class every year. I quit growing in height in fifth grade. Then everyone started getting taller than me. Yes, some of the girls were still shorter than me but when you go from being one of the taller kids to below average (with the girls and boys combined) you feel short.
Your generation might be getting taller though. Good nutrition on the part of your parents and when you were growing up also affects growth. More Americans have had both of these things now than in the past.

77. 5'2", but starting to get shorter
Being 5'6" is not short. When the fashions trend towards high heels, I find myself having to get petite-sized pants hemmed. I've seen petite inseams listed as anywhere between 27" to 30". My optimal inseam is 28" with a 1" heel (I can't wear a heel more than 1"). Lately, I've seen most "petite" inseams trend toward 29-30", because higher heels are favored right now.

On the upside...for casual clothing such as t-shirts, shorts, cargo pants and trail shoes, I can shop in the boys department and save gobs of money! Several times I've had store clerks remark that I must have houseful of boys, and I tell them "no, it's all for me."

I love Keens trail shoes...and for a women they run around $85-90.00. But because I fit into a youth size 4, I only pay $45-50 for basically the same shoe.

My mom and two sisters are all 5'4" (I got my long legs from my dad's side), so I definitely feel tall around them. I grew two inches in college, so you could grow some more (if I remember correctly from your previous posts, you are fairly young).

my ex was very fair skinned, and her dad & mom were both around 5'7" or so... and her sister was like 5'8" and olive-skinned.

The other odd thing was that my ex was very busty and her sister was fairly flat-chested.

109. 6'4", but since most men overestimate their own height people often
think I'm taller than that.

In fact I'm actually 6'3 1/2", but since you'll generally see me with shoes on, etc, I find it saves time by just saying 6' 4"

My mom is proud of it. I thnk she views me as a job well done!

so, about normal for here in CT for a guy, but I think it's a bit shorter than the national average.

My wife is 5'5" and is the tallest woman in my immediate family: My mom and her sister are about 5'3"/5'4" My two cousins are both about 5'1" - my two grandmothers were about that in their primes as well. My sister in law is about 5'3" and my mother-in-law is probably under 5'0"
