Have we become a "slutty" society ?
No seriously this is a copycat but at the same time I see girls like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian get more and famous for showing their assets in sex tapes. And guys like Joe Francis get famous for Girls Gone Wild - its almost like you don't have to have a talent to make it to the top anymore ...

nothing to see here just a bad copycat.

1. Before the great depression newspapers were filled with wild stories, gossip,
slanderous fables and just plain junk.

13. A sign that society is falling apart and people's feet are not on the ground
perhaps.

Just certain circles in the entertainment biz. The rest of us are just living our lives.

7. Well, people do show their underwear more often.

Seriously, I have seen people with their clothes FALLING OFF as they walk down the street, and they don't seem in the least embarrassed.

But as Cole Porter (a man ahead of his time) wrote, "In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked upon as something shocking. Now, heaven knows, anything goes!"

But I am sick of seeing that photo of the Madonna-Britney snog. :puke:

9. ANYBODY who quotes Cole Porter lyrics is my friend.
"Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four letter words
Writing prose, Anything Goes."

20. Great quote!

I wonder if Hollywood screenwriters got the memo on that?

By the way, I only recently read that some of the lyrics in Kiss Me Kate were too hot for the Hays office. Boy, times have changed.

10. A balkanized society, judging by my college experience
I've always been something of an ascetic, so I staked an interesting vantage point during my undergraduate studies, watching two radically different cultures at play. The first fit all the criteria of The Generation of the Sneer; that is, vapid, cell-phone tethered consumerists eager to fuck any number of horse-faced/beautiful strangers. The second was the Campus Crusade for Christ crowd, the sort who would have proudly sported masturbands, had the fad reached them in time.

One faction zealously spit on the ideal of romantic love, the other harbored a pathological hatred of the flesh. Honestly, I still can't say which was more disturbing.

15. Yes
And it has something to do with patriarchy asserting itself in an era of increased power (non sexual) of women in society. That's the short answer anyway.

19. well people say that but you know what?
i have a pretty good idea that if someone released the "pitohui" sex tape, no one would watch it, i would not become famous, i would not be a millionaire celeb

believe me a sex tape would be a small price to pay for lifetime financial security, if it was really that easy to make it big by being slutty, a lot more people would be doing it

most people make very little or even lose money with their sex tapes and websites

it might look easy from the outside, but give it a go yourself and see how easy it is!
