As promised last week - My Frybread recipe |
|
Sorry it is so late.
2 Cups all purpose flour 2 Teaspoons baking powder 1/4 Cup instant nonfat dry milk 1/4 Teaspoon salt 1/2 to 2 Cups warm water Vegetable Oil (for frying) Honey or Powdered sugar
Combine flour, baking powder, dry milk and salt in a large bowl. Slowly add enough warm water to form a workable dough (add 1/2 cup at at time, then more, until the dough is slightly sticky, knead dough until smooth.) Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let dough proof for 1/2 - 2 hours. Then divide dough into 4 equal portions.
On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece of dough into a small ball and roll out into a flat circle about 8" in diameter and 1/4" thick. Cut a steam vent into each circle of dough.
In a large, deep frying pan, heat 1-2" of vegetable oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Fry the dough pieces one at at time, turning once, for 2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove from hot oil and drain on paper towels. Serve with honey or powdered sugar, or use for Indian Tacos.

2. Are these similar to sopapillas? |
|
The recipe looks really similar (except I think you don't score them before frying. that way they puff up).
Looks WAY yummy, regardless. :hi:

5. I don't know - I have never made sopapillas |
|
My guess is that it is a similar dough, now that I think about it.
