I catch stuff every once in a while. For instance:

I've got all of the West Wing on DVD. Josh was shot and had major chest surgery at the end of Season 1/beginning of Season 2. Donna was in a crash in Gaza at the end of Season 5/beginning of Season 6. She had a severely broken leg that had to have a rod put in to set it properly.

"Election Day (Part 1) of Season 7. Josh is sitting in a hotel lounge and Donna, wearing a skirt, moves from her seat to the seat right next to him. She crosses her legs. There's not a scar to be found on her legs.

Next scene, they're in bed together. Josh does not have a scar on his chest.

1. once you start looking, you see this kind of thing all the time
I don't even try to search them out, generally speaking. Sometimes I'll look for them if I read about glaring continuity errors on imdb or something.

There's probably a potential drinking game here, somehow....

3. I love "The West Wing", but they have made some pretty big errors.
The one that sent me shouting at the TV was when they talked about soldiers being armed with "Bradleys with 120mm Chain Guns." The Bradley does have a chain gun, but it's size is only 25mm. It is the M1A1 Abrams tank that has the 120mm gun, and it's a pretty standard cannon. I don't think a 120mm chain gun could even be built.

Here are some links to sites enumerating the major mistakes:

5. My wife and I are always noticing things.
We're both pretty detail-oriented, so we notice all kinds of things on tv. Most common are continuity errors and mispositioning of actors when the camera angle changes. One of the most common errors crops up in dining scenes, where glasses of wine/water/whatever miraculously fill and empty depending on the shot.

6. Continuity directors are the folks who are supposed to prevent such things.
And no, I don't often search; things just jump out like that.

I was unaware of the "mistake" in "Kung Fu Hustle" until it was mentioned in the director's dialogue.

And as far as I'm concerned, Star Wars Episode 1 IS a continuity error.

8. Look for them? They leap out
I suppose its one reason I don't watch much tv - they irritate me half the time.

9. I count how many times a round should come flying out of a shotgun/handgun each time
the actors rack the slide for dramatic effect.

10. No, but my husband does all the time
and it drives me nutz. I don't want to be bothered with that sort of thing -- I'm more interested in the story.
