What is your favorite month, and your least favorite month?
Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 04:07 PM by bob_weaver
My favorite month is October - the ground is still warm but the air is cool and dry, with a crispness that lifts you up as you breathe it in. Leaves turn red, orange, yellow then brown. Schoolchildren scream at recess games while pumpkins are set out on the porches, not carved up yet. You pick an apple right off the tree and bite into it, and the warm juice runs down your chin. The crunch of dry leaves under your feet as the sun drops quietly away and the huge harvest moon appears low in the sky. The faint smell of woodsmoke in the air means someone's already using their fireplace. The night sky reveals a thousand stars you didn't know existed. The softly whooing owl lulls you to sleep.

My least favorite month is August. The heat and humidity combine to give me a pounding headache and there's no escape from it.
What are your favorite and least favorite months?

1. I hate February. I love June.
February is at the tail-end of the REALLY crappy part of winter, here.
By then I am so sick of cold it's maddening.
June is nice. It's warm but not hot and things are growing in the yard.

I love the cold.

2. I'm with you! I love the smell and feel of October. I fucking hate August.
August is allergy month for me, when I go from the normal year-round sort-of-uncomfortable to balls-out-asshole-miserable. Plus, it's hot and humid. I hate July and September as well, but not as much.

My other favorite month is February, because it's cold, windy, snowy, and usually is the fulness of winter. Yummy!!

And December is wonderful, because it's the month with the least amount of sunlight, which light I generally loathe. I prefer dark, or overcast. I do NOT prefer sunlight.

3. Ditto on October--for all the reasons you noted
I just revel in everything to do with autumn!

Least favorite month: March. 'Round these parts (western NYS), there ain't no cherry blossoms--just more blizzards. By March, we're all ready for spring, but the month, for all intents and purposes, is just another part of winter. Blech. Plus we have some of our nastiest storms in March. Don't get me wrong--I love winter. But by then, it's just tired.

19. I hate winter, so when we get a nasty storm in March I pretty much want
to slit my throat. Since I'm probably never going to convince my husband to move west I'm just going to have to learn to love winter I guess. I don't know how though.

That's what my family says at the first hint of fall. Crispy crunchy fall.

But my favorite month is December. I'm a sucker for Christmas. And I'm an atheist!

But I love the lights, the music, the hope of snow, the hustle and bustle, Xmas trees, wrapping presents, and of course THE FOOD!!!

And my birthday is in December too.

Least favorite - January. Long, cold and of course, the let down after the holidays. And if the Jets or Giants don't make the playoffs, even football is a downer.

Plus I love the leaf changes around ehre starting seriously in another week or so. Fall is great in Maine.

My least favorite month is probably March. Weather SUCKS--unequivocally SUCKS--here, full of mud and dirty crap and half-melted snow. Yuck.

11. My favorite month is October. For all the reasons you list. It's also the best
month to travel. The kids are back in school so there aren't a million people at all the tourist attractions (one reason to remain childless I suppose! LOL!). The weather is usually lovely no matter where you are. We take nearly all our trips between late September and mid-October and usually have excellent weather. The air is crisp, the sky is blue and there is still plenty of green around.

My least favorite month is probably February. It's smack in the middle of a loooooooooooooooooooooong stretch with no days off (unless you work at a bank or a school). The only thing lingering from the holidays is the credit card bill. It's dark, it's cold, and by then I'm so damn sick of having chapped lips and flaky dry skin- oh and it takes 15 minutes to get ready to leave the house because of all the bundling up. The snow is usually filthy and gross, and there are dangerous, sneaky little ice patches in all the places you need to walk. Everything is dirty and caked with road salt. There are no leaves on the trees. And spring is such a long way off still. It's the month when I hate living in Chicago the most. Yuck. It makes me depressed just thinking of it.

18. Oh, yes, that's true. Haven't been to Yosemite but we were in Lake Tahoe
two years ago in Sept/Oct and it was heaven. We were on the north part of the lake, on the Nevada side, so it was really quiet and more wild. We could hike around without seeing anyone. The weather was outstanding: sunny and pleasant during the day and just slightly chilly at night. I remember one day we took a trail down to a beach that was not super accessible (Chimney Beach, I think?). We could walk pretty far out onto the lake on these huge flat rocks. We did just that, and sat down for a bit. The temperature was just perfect, there was a hint of a breeze, the sun was shining, there were fat puffy clouds reflected in the shaded areas of the water, and you could see soooooo far down into the lake. As I sat there listening to the water lap up onto the rocks I thought "This is one of those moments you remember forever. This is my happy place." Sigh... It's so much better when there aren't a million people around.

not everything in a month can be negative now, can it?

April of 2007 is when I lost my father to cancer

September of 2007 is when I lost my grandmother to a massive stroke....

So, the year 2007 really sucked out loud for me, but I suppose whatever is happening at the time seems to magnify the loss at the moment..

But I just look forward...hey, what else can I do?

If it's any consolation, both car accidents ( on my record ) happened in September...and both of them my fault ( and long stories, too...both of them ) so September is not exactly the happiest of months for me, either.

Edited to correct spelling

16. October is also my favorite month....I am not so fond of February
October has HS Football on Friday night, the Apples are at their peak, there are still peaches you managed to keep in the fridge since early September, and they're still pretty good, the kids have hit a routine in school and there's the World Series...Around here there will be plenty of 80 degree plus days, but without the humidity.

I like August despite the oppressive heat and humidity, mostly because my favorite local produce comes to market in August, the peaches, the sweet corn, the pole beans....also, the County Fair is in August, as is my youngest child's birthday and mine.

February is just plain dull. The Super Bowl has been played, no Baseball yet and the whole weather thing has gotten old by the end of the month. NCAA hoops are getting in full swing in February though......

I'm biased towards November because of my birthday, but I also enjoy Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday season (and this may sound weird, but I actually enjoy the holiday season and Christmas Eve better than Christmas Day).

April, for me, is probably the most boring month of the year, and I've also never been a big fan of Spring, for some reason.
