Listen to what happened to my friend, scary shit,.... |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 05:10 PM by HEyHEY
She was on the Skytrain and there was some dude at the other end of the train. This was around seven at night. She noticed he was sitting with his legs kinda spread and his hand on his crotch, she thought to herself, "Fuck, is this guy gonna jack-off or something?" Then she turned her eyes away. She continued to listen to her walkman... and noticed the guy was staring at her. She avoids eye contact, then he gets up and comes to her end of the car and sits down facing her and just stares. She keeps ignoring him. She leaves her headphones in but turns her Ipod off. And he digs through his bag and pulls out a cell phone. He fucks around with that for a minute. Then pulls out hand ties for punching bags. He starts lightly whipping her legs with them. At this point my friend was quite scared but thought maybe there was nothing to it and she may just be freaking out. Then the guy wraps up his fist and starts punching the back of the seat looking at her. So, needless to say, she's scared shitless. So, the train gets to Commercial and Broadway and everyone goes to get off. This guy just stands up and stand right in the middle of the door so everyone is kind of manuevering around him. My friend was behind him and didn't realize someone was behind her. She was scared to go past him... she said just then she felt someone pushing her from behind, very forcefully right past the guy... and she wasn't sure who this was and was freaked they may be working together... so she was kind of walking slow and trying to keep composed. There were people everywhere and it was the rat race kind thing going on. She got on the escalator and tried to stand there and the person behind her kept pushing. She could see the first guy with the bandages was about 20 feet behind her. But the guy right behind her kept pushing her along. Finally, he grabs the headphones out of her ears and says, "Go! Go! You need to get the fuck out of here right now." So she just says, "Fuck it" and start hauling ass to her other train connection... she gets on just as the doors shut. SHe turns around to see the first threatening guy running after her as the train pulls away. Then, the guy that was right behind her pushing her just breaks out, "Oh my god, that was so fucked up, I didn't know what to do, that guy was gonna jump you." She turns around to see this little 5'4 young man in a suit just sweating his ass off. He proceeds to tell her that when the guy had his cell phone out he was taking pictures of her and all this shit. Just messed up. Thank god for that guy, whoever he is. Had he not shoved her along, god knows what would have happened.

I'm glad it turned out okay - it sounds like she handled it about as well as one could and that was very cool of the other guy to take the initiative and help her.

The weird thing from your description is that it's clear that there were many people around. Yet your friend had reason to be afraid...
I recently read about a study inspired by the Kitty Genovese case. She was a women from Queens who was stabbed to death, with no less the 39 bystanders who did nothing (one person called the cops-this was in the 80's I think). Anyway, the study set up several different incidents in various places.
The bottom line is that the study found that a person in need of assistance is much likelier to find help when only one or a few people are present then in a crowd. They called the phenomenon a "diffusion of responsibility"
Thank God for that guy who helped your friend! I hope she is doing ok now.

14. My other friend said the same thing |
|
We were talking about how some bus-driver got beaten up in front of 20 people. I was saying, "How the fuck out of 20 people could not at least five of them get together and help this guy?" Then she explained the same theory to me.

Is stand up to the asshole and ask him, loudly, what the fuck he thinks he's doing. He knew he had her totally intimidated.

While she was extraordinarily lucky that the second fellow to come along had her interests in mind, what if he hadn't?
Furthermore: asshole #1 still has her photo. Not good.

27. Yes, sometimes two people will work together. The first one will... |
|
intimidate the woman, and the other one will act as though they're helping. This often happens where the second person will "save" the woman by stopping their car to let the woman in so that she can get away from the first person. The second person might even be a woman. The person "saving" her is part of the plot. Very scary stuff. It makes it so that women feel that they can trust nobody.
Thank goodness that the second person really was looking out for her. :scared:

24. Only true if he was sane. |
|
If the guy was simply a sociopath and was getting off on scaring her, then yeah, you may have had a point. Standing up to him might have scared him off. If, on the other hand, the guy was a genuine nutcase predator who planned on harming her, confronting him may have simply triggered the assault he planned on committing anyway.
The danger in these situations is that by the time you know which possibility is correct, it's already too late to turn back. The woman on the train did the right thing by escaping the situation before it had a chance to escalate.
