is your town doing a memorial?? Are you going to mark it in a special way?? or is it just another day..???
I will say an extra prayer.... My son was over there, in the "recovery" process...... after wards he was also on the NJ side of the river...waiting for the casualties... none came My son is a fireman and went to alot of funerals and memorials
My neighbor who I baby sat for is a Port Authority cop most of the PA cops that died graduated boot camp with him...... the elders were his teachers.... he asked for the day off... otherwise. who knows...... to this day when I am outside talking to him when a plane flys over he looks up, never skips a beat.... but watches till it passes...... we are in Newark airports flight path A friend I graduated high school with works for the recovery company.... he is haunted.... a friend from Jr. high... a true gentleman then, died I don't know who or what did this.... we lost friends, family, and our naive thinking "not me", not here...... we are safe
peace to anyone who lost someone

3. I will light a candle on my altar, in memory of those who lost their lives. |
|
It just so happens my 8th grader son is having to give a 2-3 min speech on the 9/11 event in his history class this week. It's part of the "timeline" project they were given. Each kid gets to pick an event in history, from a pre-set chronologically-ordered list and then has to give a little speech about it to the rest of the class.
Consequently, since it's so perfect, timing-wise, I thought it would be useful to tivo all the programs this week having to do with that event. There's a bunch of documentaries out there about it, plus MSNBC will be airing their broadcast tomorrow from that day for a few hours. We'll see that, and I know it'll bring back all the sad and powerless feelings again. I expect it will be a heavy-hearted day. :( But it's important for my kids to understand what happened, as tragic as it is.
He was in 2nd grade back then....and ShineGirl was only 4.

4. I'll be wearing black scrubs to work. |
|
From September 11, 2001 until the day we invaded Iraq, I wore an American flag pin in my lapel. After we did the Germany 1939 thing, I took it off and haven't worn it since.

Your thoughts are much appreciated by me today...
I have no idea if my town is doing anything...Actually, I think they are.
I have school tomorrow, and I plan to go...
And my feeling is...we all lost someone on that terrible day.
Peace to you too, sweetie...

8. It will certainly be in my thoughts |
|
My daughter lived in Manhattan then and worked at Castle Clinton just blocks from the WTC - she was at home and safe that day but it was an anxious time waiting to hear from her. It's still vivid and whenever I see a tv show or movie in which the WTC appears, it hits. Hard.
A friend's daughter lost a schoolmate on one of the planes. The mother of one of the people on Flight 93 who fought back used to shop at my store.
It does not seem like 6 years.

14. I can't imagine being close enough to see the smoke |
|
To be within reach of it. It was painful enough being in California seeing it on the television.
My SO and I brought some recycling to the center that day. There were newsboys on the corners, hawking papers, something I've never in my life seen. There were people standing in little groups talking. Everyone at the recycling center was in shock. There were people in tears.
It was so shocking here so far away (though of course, one of the planes was headed here) - I cannot imagine how it must have been there.

18. I remember the silence that night |
|
I was working at a local TV station (doing the Web site), so you can imagine the frenzy of the day. I don't even remember going to the bathroom. After spending about 12 hours at the station, I went home. DH was watching CNN but I just couldn't take anymore news reports. We lived on a small lake, so I went outside and sat on the end of the dock in the dark. And I remember the silence--no planes. Nothing. It was eerie.
In a little while I went to a prayer/meditation circle at my elder's house, came back home, sat down at the computer, and kept working half the night. Got up and did it again in a few hours. Over and over again for days...
Tomorrow I will remember. And I will pray for our country to be freed from the real terrorists--the ones in the White House.

17. I don't have anything special planned....it is a dark day for me. |
|
I spent some time at the recovery doing excavation work. My apartment in NYC was off limits to me until November of 2001 since my license had an upstate address. We sold it the following year - it was too much for us to take.
