The Duggar Family (the one with a brazillion kids)
How do you live in one house with 19 family members?

Interesting slideshow. Don't you wish you had a cafeteria line in your kitchen? Or a communal clothes closet?

23. I don't think it's "dual", but rather
big kids and little kids. Notice the one on the right is smaller. Daycares have "little potties" like that.

And very clean. I only have two kids and it takes all the time I have to keep up with them and the house. In other words, I have no time left to make more kids.

20. The kids are homeschooled and have to do housework
as part of their 'training'. The 12 year old girl gets to do 12 loads of laundry a day. The 15 year old boy has to feed the dog. Every kid gets to raise a younger sibling as soon as mom gets pregnant again.

Does not sound fair.

28. Fair by their fundie "reasoning"
I've seen it posted that the girls are supposed to do the housework and take care of a younger sibling, and the boys are raised to be good Christian men that their future wives will submit to.

29. It is a girl doing the laundry...a boy feeding the dog.
Absolutely fair by the way their world works. And the example of mom doing nothing more than popping out one after another for the older kids to raise.

This family strikes me as sexist as hell and very hard on the girls.

9. I know.
Aside from the clothes closet, it isn't that bad. The boys' room furniture is kinda cheesy compared to the girls', but overall it is a fairly nice house.

All of that restaurant style equipment is just weird, though. Deep fryers? Commercial kitchen plus a regular kitchen? Sneeze guards on the salad bar? Cup dispensers on the wall next to the soda fountain?

With 17 kids, one would generally expect abject poverty.

3) Some people around here can be incredibly judgmental.

16. I think it's freakish how they have a HUGH space
but only two bedrooms for the kids.

At the very least they should have bedrooms for the older children and bedrooms for the younger children, with a total of 4 bedrooms for the 17 kids.

That seems really cultlike to me. There's enough space there for individuality, but no.... it doesn't matter whether you're 18 or 2, you get the same bedroom.

27. What does Mr. Duggar do for a living?
I'm assuming the Mrs. stays home and raises the brazillion kids, like a good woman. But what does he do to be able to afford all that?

I must say, it's nice to know they have that many kids and support them well, unlike the McCaugheys, who had more than they could afford and expected help from other people.

As a family project the Duggars built a 7000 sqft. home debt free! Both Jim Bob and Michelle are licensed real estate agents. They often host and facilitate the Jim Sammon’s Financial Freedom Seminar. Jim Bob served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 and was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002. (http://www.duggarfamily.com/financialfreedom.html)

Of course, the boys have probably absorbed enough subtle cues that females are substandard, therefore anything that only females do is undesirable.

what I don't understand is, that house is so big, how come all the girls are in one room and all the boys in another.....instead of all the bonus rooms, they should have built more bedrooms..I imagine those kids get on each others' nerves and have no where to go.

64. My fiance and I are fascinated with the Duggars.
Whenever one of the tv shows of them come on, we go nuts. As for their house, think about it: the house they moved from can fit into their new living room. Their house is also a church for the Quiverfull cult they belong to.

We always talk about how Jim Bob Duggar and his wife are just human fuck machines, how they'll have 10's of thousands of decendants in 100 years, and how at least one of the daughters will end up posing for playboy. When the interior designer from NYC came to help them with their house, we were waiting for Big Momma Duggar to tell the kids, "Look children! This is a demon-whore from Babylon! Can you say Demon-Whore?!?"

More or less, they're pretty good people. They might not have all their priorities straight and they have some warped beliefs but I think they're ok.

72. Even better--
Think of all the McDonald's employees they're breeding!

If I recall correctly, many eons ago multiple male siblings in a well to do family had three major choices when they grew up: the oldest became the landowner and lord; the second son went into the military, and the third, if there was a third, went to seminary.

By that standard, most of these boys will end up as either soldiers or priests. And since they're home-schooled with fundie values, they certain aren't going to be rocket scientists. Or scholars. It would also appear that Mommie dearest doesn't exactly believe her daughters are going to be anything other than baby machines like she is.

67. Instead of a homemade sign, they should really install a scrolling LED sign to
announce each birth. Think of the time and bedsheets saved.

I know I'll get all the "to each his own, who am I to say" type comments but I don't care. That family is fucking creepy and those parents have forced the older children (especially the girls) into indentured servitude.

71. I don't know...maybe they can ask this moran (and he's a f'in Dem!)
Actually this moran is the Vice Chair for the Democratic Party of Georgia, Candidate Recruitment:

This is from an editorial in the Albany Herald (http://www.albanyherald.com/editorials.html):

Take the Aug. 31 comments that state Rep. Winfred Dukes, D-Albany, made to graduates of the Turner Job Corps Center.
In an apparent effort to reference the log-cabin beginnings politicians are so fond of citing in an effort to come across as a regular person, Dukes noted that he was raised in a family of 15 who resided in a four-bedroom house.

“We were kind of like Mexicans,” Dukes quipped.

The reference drew an uncomfortable stir from audience members and none of the laughter Dukes apparently hoped to elicit.
