I haven't had my hair done in 20+ years and I am sure my mother paid for it (my wedding!) so I am totally clueless.

and move up from there if it's really good.
But typically, $100 haircut = $20 tip.

OH MY GOD no wonder my hair is down to my ass
This is a small town and the boys go to a BARBER - $9 no tip I hope to god this is not going to be over $50 or we are going to be eating only beans for a few days!
She needed to do this for senior protraits tomorrow and conveniently for me, although she did just get a job she won't be paid for who knows how long. ggrrrrr

That's why pretty much nobody from LA was surprised by John Edwards' $500 haircut. Hell, in Beverly Hills, that's a bargain!

But I haven't had my hair cut in a salon for at least 8 years. Wow - I just realized that. :wow:

It was $17 and she left the change from a 20 - and I can't really tell - I'm not good at this stuff, but I can tell if a horse is limping from 2 miles away - does that make up for anything?

I go to a discount place where it's $16 and I leave a $20 but I've seen many people walk out without tipping more than a buck.
Actually, since I use a $1.00 coupon the cutter is getting a $5 tip. I think that standard practice is 10-20%, more if the hair dresser does something really nice. I tip more than 20% because it's such a cheap price to begin with and there are some decent cutters at my local shop.
