Help: Name a movie that'd be the antithesis to SEX AND THE CITY |
|
My best friend is in a serious relationship with a woman who is obsessed with the HBO program. She watches them constantly, and anticipates the upcoming movie with the same fervor I did the Star Wars prequels. He loves her, but like myself and the majority of men, he’d just as soon drink goat urine than expose himself to that.
He looks to me to provide him with alternatives—soul cleansings, if you will. Good friend that I am, I’m set out to oblige him. Right now, I’ve got THE MISSION. It’s a Robert DeNiro/Jeremy Irons film about Jesuit priests defending a South American tribe from imperialists. Hell, could you imagine anything more different?
Any suggestions?

I've often watched Sex and the City and muttered "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageously bad writing, or to take arms against a sea of trouble and by jumping out my goddamn fourth floor window, end them."

4. So we need a movie where women have no sex. |
|
Hmmm.
Like Water for Chocolate almost does it. That daughter wasn't supposed to have sex.
What about Peter Pan?

Woman has a life, works hard, doesn't whine incessantly, makes mistakes that are HER FAULT, which produce REAL CONSEQUENCES (losing her kids), woman is confronted with real moral dilemna, woman does the right thing and pays for it with her life.
A truer antithesis in the same gender you won't find...Norma Rae is similar. I guess when I examine my motives I am suggesting this more as an intervention for the woman than for her boyfriend. As far as guy movies go, I am not familiar with that genre at all but I really like Enemy of the State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman.
