The BlueIris Semi-Nightly Poem Thread, 9/12/07 Bonus
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 09:07 AM by BlueIris
"Bathroom Stop"

The highway rest stop passengers
hurry to and from the candy machine
bathrooms
barely noticing the sad suburbia
over the shivering fence.
The highway rest stop houses
never sleep at night.
They border on MacDonaldland,
its french fry light never dimming,
throwing shadows on
the highway rest stop people
enduring in suburbia
who trudge to jobs in factories
and do their dishes
and mow their lawns
and fight and love and cry
in the stifling light of Big Mac Heaven.
And the morning traffic whizzes by.

3. Wow, my mileage varies. I actually find this poem to be somewhat hopeful.
I always imagine the highway rest stop people escaping their suburban lives, or at least attempting to make them more meaningful.
