5. How can it be a performance when not a single note is played?

13. Because the notes you don't play are at least as important as those you do...
...or some such pseudo-Zen horse crap. :D

I'll believe it's a performance when I see the orchestra members turning pages.

15. It's one long rest.
Or, really, three long rests.

16. Technically, three tacets (according to the score).
It would seem to me that in order to have a long rest, there would have to be sound from which to rest in the first place.

17. Did you not listen? There were notes being played all over the place,
from all sorts of sources, that I heard over the speakers; not to mention all the ambient notes happening in my own listening room.

9. Bah
Cage brilliantly illustrated a great concept with that piece, but doing it on that large a scale just seems like a stunt to me (though I suppose it is not too hard to fit into the rehearsal or performance schedule).

Here's another bite-sized orchestral performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl2oKh50AL8

10. Actually, I believe it was a part of a whole John Cage program.
Which was part of a composers weekend, or something like that. They mention it at the end of the clip.
