I just got someone arrested and feel terrible, even if he's a jerk.
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 06:16 PM by sfexpat2000
I was walking Kid this morning and on the way home I saw this RIVER of white paint coming down the gutter on my block. It wasn't just a little paint. There were two guys emptying two five gallon tubs of paint into the gutter AND THAT GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE F#CKING OCEAN.

So, I did what I swore I'd never do again and called the police. They arrested the building manager who was supervising the job. He's a big jerk from hell and I hope he pays for this. But, it still felt bad to see him cuffed.

Man, what a weenie I am.

6. Our beautiful ocean! He told the police I was a liar and told me
to go away.

Problem is, there was still diluted paint in the gutter. So, his cred was shot.

There were other things -- the scafolding was dangerous and probably not up to code and stuff like that. Paint everywhere, even on cars parked on the street. Why do people do stuff like that when doing it right is just as easy.

But, I've been cuffed and it's not a good experience. Oh, well.

66. You did well. Do not consider guilt whatsoever.
Anyone who dumps 10 gallons of paint into a gutter deserves arrest and a fine and a week in jail.

You did well. You do not need to express any guilt.

Environmental crimes should be punished severly.

Getting arrested for pot is overkill, getting arrested for willfully violating the few environmental laws we have isn't.

59. I live next to a creek that no one can enter anymore because of
bacterial contamination due to deteriorating home sewer lines, so please believe me when I tell you I understand. I stand by my earlier statement that an arrest and booking is overkill for pouring paint down a street drain. A citation and court appearance are appropriate in my opnion.

we swam in it every summer
we could ice skate on it through the whole winter....
some asshole engineer has the sewers draining into the lake.....
that means all the crap everyone puts on their lawns goes into the lake
all the friggen dog poo goes into the lake
all the salt they put on the roads in the winter goes into the lake
People have been temporally paralyzed because of the shit in the lake..

nope.... no fucking excuse
no "second chance"

my future grandchildren and great grandchildren do not deserve this.....

A piece of paper can be torn up

sorry for the rant

38. you did the right thing...
i did the right thing the other day too

i don't feel bad about what i did

i feel bad about the consequences that have come about

-a good friend is pissed at me
-someone got fired
-they will have a fair treatment hearing and i will be asked to testify there and become the "snitch" because what they did was wrong, illegal, and they damned well knew better.

everytime lately i have stood up for what seemed right, and was right, i have had it come back in my face. I guess i shouldn't complain, many greater people have died for standing up for what is right and it was on a much larger scale.

I guess I'm just having a pity party about it a bit.

I didn't fire the person for one thing. I reported something they did that was illegal, impacted a patient's rights and care, and hurt the place i work. Oh well. I will probably still do what's right again. Despite the fact that I will know that it won't be the popular thing to do.

You wouldn't feel at all guilty if you brought a rapist to justice, would you? Or, for that matter, saw anyone in the White House hauled off in irons. This guy as as dangerous a criminal in his own way as any of the others. He's helping poison a planet, and if that's not a crime, what is?

67. I am a believer in the proper usage of governmental services...
up & down the line. Painters are some of the worst. What is with these people? Completely aside from what you've witnessed, construction debris accounts for more than its share of pollution, mishaps & highway accidents; but it seems painters will drop whole 5gal buckets of paint out the back of their trucks just plop! Right onto newly opened roadways splashed, or dragged dripping for a 1/4 mile.

Are you aware this person you reported isn't a 'new american', or foreign contractor? If he's found to have a current Calif St Contractor's Lic; your having reported him will be the least of his troubles. They should otherwise be aware that HAZMAT and/or spent construction materials, etc, are to be handled in prescribed manners. I'm sure he will be apprised while within the system. Whether he choses to adhere will be a matter for him to decide.
