He is not the in casual encounters area, so no meetups at the rest station on the interstate. :P

He sounds intelligent and articulate, advertised as the appropriate age for me, calls * "our warmongering draftdodger." Those are all positives to me. Calls himself independent which could mean any thing from self-employed to unemployed.

I've never responded to these ads before. I'm rather shy about checking him out. What kinds of info should I be looking for?

What have you got to lose? Take the normal precautions and the answer is nothing.

9. Just send it.
Breathe easy, don't take it too seriously, exchange a couple of emails and then set up a coffee date fairly quickly (in a well lighted public place, heh). A key trap in meeting online is that they are nothing like they are in RL, which is crushing to have exchanged dozens of deep emails and then meet them and get absolutely no interest. Don't sweat it though--- I've met tons of people through CL and other internet personals and none of them were axe murderers. A couple of guys I dated for awhile & am still friends with today. :D

10. I have a good male friend - intelligent, kind, fit
and employed! who sometimes posts personals on craiglist. He's met a few women that way, but generally speaking the women have been rather creepy. Not all of them, though. I'd give it a shot if I were you.

24. Oh, well I met someone as a result of a post on that site....
I even met him for dinner.
Since I realize posts here appear out on the internet if someone does a search and it picks up the post, I am not going to describe it.
At this point, I don't want him to be a stalker.
He was totally looneytunes and kept insisting we go to a remote location together.

I am in my 50's and I have NEVER met anyone as weird as this guy.

Of course your results may vary, but do be careful.

28. Thanks Digit
finding a potential stalker is one thing that does concern me. (One of the reasons I now have a phone by my bedside.) But I suppose you can run into those offline too just as easily.

It almost makes me feel like saying OK, we like each other, let's get fumigated in the lab together! :silly:

27. If your track record is fairly good ( your judgment has been OK in past)
have a little faith, but keep your senses about you. Be watchful of secretive behavior. Also be watchful if he agrees with EVERYTHING. Be mindful of how much info you give and how fast you give it. Expect that if he is a good guy and has a brain, he will be a bit reserved about info too - Reserved NOT the same as secretive.

Go slow. LOTS of communication. Eyes open, but mind also open. Heart somewhat open.

Good luck,
havocmom, who met Havocdad online ;)

30. That's the fun part
Track record. Horrible judgement in the past, but a few recent experiences/traps that I have successfully avoided have given me the impression that maybe the system is now working the way it's supposed to.

I'll see. Maybe he won't even respond.

It's good to hear that things worked out for you and havocdad. :-)
