GREAT - will cost over $2000 to repair car
They THINK they can "save" the fuel tank, but fuel injectors and pump unit need to be replaced. Have a call in to insurance and am waiting for claims rep to get back with me. They can't authorize repairs until then. The insurance company will instruct me how to proceed against the gas station.

I am so angry I cannot see straight. I know I'm not the only one to go through this, but I really want to go after the people who sold me contaminated fuel and despoiled my beloved Chequers.

BOYCOTT TEXACO!!!!!

1. If your insurance company
is going to pay for the repairs, I think that they should be the one to go after the station. Hey, at least you're covered. It'd really, really suck if you weren't.

7. It's called subrogation, and it's how I earn a living.
I work property claims, not auto, but the principles are the same. If we pay, and someone else is responsible, we'll try to recover what we pay out and your deductible.

11. The claims rep said it's very hard to prove the gas came from their station
Even though I have the receipt with the pump number on it. They get new gas deliveries in often enough that it's hard to prove that was the gas.

The service guy can't even get around to faxing the estimate until tomorrow morning. Then the insurance company's auto repair group has to review it to determine if the costs are reasonable. I probably won't get my little car back for two weeks at this rate. I wish I'd gotten my hands on the gas sample Monday or Tuesday, but they were backed up and didn't even look at the car until yesterday. I have a free loaner right now, but will have to return that once the insurance process starts. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem, as I'm sitting on my butt at home most days, but I have a job interview in Fort Worth Tuesday. I guess I'll be shuttling Mr. DTBK back and forth to work - don't want to rent a car unless I get the job and start right away because I don't have much to do but errands right now.

I AM SO ANGRY.

12. Yeah, it would be a tough case to prove, but I'd take a crack at them.
The problem is the amount of money it would take to pursue the case.

I wish you well. :pals:

3. I guess it does!
Would the first person I called have told me if this weren't covered? I can't seem to lay hands on our policy at the moment. I have googled this station, and they have committed environmental offenses in the past. Haven't found anything yet about selling contaminated gas.

My poor little car. Normally car repairs are aggravating in the extreme, but I feel very protective of this little car and take it very personally when he (yes, he!) is harmed!

4. Man that is terrible.
I bet there are hundreds of people who are facing the same thing you are. I wonder how many know what the problems is? I wonder how many will have to pay the entire thing out of pocket?

6. At least we can afford it
The credit card will take a huge hit - my poor husband. I'm not working right now, so he'll get stuck with the bill. I just hope insurance will cover it and/or get the station proprietor/distributor/whoever to pay for it.

14. I've been boycotting all gas stations since the first Gulf War
I'll add Texaco to the list of places that I don't patronize anyway.
