I was watching How Clean Is Your House today and learned that computer keyboards are very dirty. |
|
Yes your home keyboard is full of germs and should be kept clean.
I won't be able to look at my keyboard the same again.

1. Did you know they have heaters for keyboards? |
|
There is actually a patent for it and it will start selling at staples soon.
Go figure!

3. Well there are a lot of folks working in data centers, |
|
and they keep the important stuff (not humans) at the correct temperature. Anyone in the room is freezing!
The device plugs into a USB port and lays under the keyboard warming the keys!
Ingeniuous!!

11. keyboards are filthy microbe nests |
|
also, a spill in the wrong area can seriously curtail your internet activities: eg. a cannabis seed under the space bar.
To this end, I developed a sort of Martha Stewart guide to keyboard cleanliness;
Always keep on hand a bamboo skewer for picking out big lumps, such as congealed sweet chilli sauce, baked beans etc A pure bristle watercolour brush for gently sweeping powder spills Cotton buds for alcohol
And every so often upturn it, shake from side to side (much like a laser toner cartridge)then tap firmly 6 - 8 times on desk. This will generally yield enough schwag for a smallish joint.

12. Mine look pretty clean |
|
Not to mention that since I cleaned one of them with a kit made especially for the occasion, its action has never been the same. So I'd rather have a semi-filthy keyboard that I don't have to bash and crush to get anything out of it.

14. When you are REALLY bored... |
|
I use rubbing alcohol (little tiny bit at a timepoured into a tiny dish. Q-tips dipped in the stuff then rubbed on the keyboard. Takes a lot of Q-tips. Also good for the key pad of the phone - and all those little ruts in over the speaker in the phone.
When I am REALLY bored, I take the keys off, one partial row at a time, and really clean the keys, let them dry then put back on. One can also work a Q-tip CAREFULLY around the space below the removed keys, staying the hell away from the actual connectors where those keys push down the thingies that make it all work (NOT a geek, did you guess)
I NOW make diagram of the control keys cuz I put them back wrong one time and pissed Havocdad off. Personally, I think life is too short to fret about the ALT buttons ans those Microsoft logo buttons, but then, maybe they are important to some....
Seriously, a quick wipe with those non bleach wipes seems to help. Q-tips and rubbing alcohol for serious cleaning.
My wayward daughter has showered keyboards in Guinness more than once. I don't recommend it. Sometimes it doesn't hurt though, if one gets it out fast. Told her if she is gonna drink and surf, she needs to keep the cat off her desk.y
