Does Bob Saget have any socially redeeming value?
He seems like a nice enough guy, superficially at least. That's the best thing I can think to say about him.

He starred in perhaps the most inane sitcom in television history. Full House made The Brady Bunch seem downright subversive.

Supposedly, Saget redeems himself by being the filthiest comic in the world -- or close to it.

I'm sitting here watching his HBO special, and I haven't even cracked a smile, much less have I laughed.

It is true that he is filthy in the extreme. Excuse me, but "filthy" doesn't necessarily equate to "hilarious." Witness Def Comedy Jam.

And Saget's special makes the Jam seem like Pryor at his finest.

Anyone think that Saget is funny, at either extreme?

Neither of his extremes do it for me.

Neither the sickly sweet inanities of his former prime-time shit-com, nor the extremities of airborne hemorrhoids, flatulent prison rape, and maternal cunnilingus, delivered without punchline, convince me of the man's talent.

What the hell makes a star in this country?

Oh yeah. I just remembered who we have for president.

Saget, to my knowledge, has never killed anyone. And he seems like a nice enough fellow. I wouldn't mind having a beer with him.

As long as he doesn't tell me any "jokes."

1. Um, no...
He wasn't all that funny either on that funny home videos show, which wasn't very funny either...

What makes a star in this country? Being crude and tacky, look at the list of celebrities being propped up. And how Britney can end up doing something at the Emmys is beyond me... she's not in the movie biz, so what's her relevance... that's right, she's so tacky she'd make Jerry Springer blush.

4. I forgot about the video show
And I recently realized that show is still on, though he's not the host anymore.

Like I say, he seems like a nice man, but I can't believe that a man of such meager talent has become so rich from his "talent." Maybe that just means there's hope for all of us. :)

3. I guess you are damning him with faint praise
:D

He had the dirtiest take on a very dirty, unfunny joke, I guess.

8. The question is not whether he has any socially redeeming values
as that is a terribly subjective term. I'm sure he enhances the construct of 'society' in the minds of a few.

You really want to know if he's funny. No he isn't.

10. "funny" is perhaps the ultimate in subjective
But I agree that Saget isn't funny.

I think I'm going to start recording the most repulsive ideas that I can think of and call them jokes.

Maybe HBO will give me a special.

15. Every joke
is based on someone's misfortune.

Umberto Eco became rich on the question of whether Jesus laughed or not.

11. I have a friend that dealt with him at her job
and from what she said he has no socially redeeming value. She's use to dealing with celebrities but he was one of the worst.

Normally I pride myself on not hating people but I have a visceral revulsion at just the though of this guy :puke: I'll gonna call it Shame, like of being his species.

16. I like him.
Probably comes from my secret fetish regarding men who are very much total geeks, but at the same time are in truth, horny, depraved freaks.

That's just me though.

18. Back in the eighties he WAS THE FUNNIEST STANDUP around.
I am telling you, he was hysterical. I did stand up back then and he would just leave them rolling in the aisles. This is before Full House and AFHV. nobody, not Robin Williams, Harry Anderson, Louie Anderson, Steven Wright, Kinnnison, none of them wanted to folow Saget.

He was more into double entendre' than being outright dirty though. His humor made you think sometimes. Funny funny stuff.

BTW< i really love his game show, 1 VS 100. Best game show on TV right now IMO.

Another thing, all the kids that I used to tell them that Saget was funny,(and they all went "NO WAY DOOOOOOD") now think he is hilarious. So maybe his schtick is not for you but more for the "flat buns" generation.

So he's not even good for the environment. How much worse can you get?

23. His comedy special sucks the big one.
How many times can a guy say "fuck" in his act? Ask Bob Saget...he seems to be shooting for some sort of record.

24. I do require a bit of what we might call socially redeeming value...
...to stay interested in a comic, and Saget seems to have little left. I recall real wittiness in his act before his Full House days. I even enjoyed the first little while of his new special; mostly the parts where he was openly rebelling against FH. His segment of The Aristocrats was damned good; filth for the sake of filth can be fun--even if not actually funny--but it gets old quickly.

But I was afraid that one of the choices was whether Bob Saget deserved to be tasered, or is he not irritating enough...:silly:
