"Lenin Peace Prize"

An entire people with dirt in nails and sleeves rolled up.

you wonder, why do we:
sleep in crowded houses
wear torn clothes

but we understand:
nuclear families blow apart
ties choke men

we worship a religion
but it is not your religion.

Muhammed Ali, Muhammed Ali
float like a butterfly, sting like a bee
your fists are the death of this ugly machine
you are what you are but we are what we seem

and he stands there, sixteen feet tall and looking down at you
like you were
nothing.
his eyes open wide, just like Stalin’s, and he clinches your arm
in his hand.

"I'm not a rich man," his eyes say.
"But I can do the work of forty others and what you know means
nothing."

your tears are clear and meaningless
but we cry red.
