I broke my toe last night. Ouch. |
|
As some of you know I've had some medical issues lately. I haven't been able to work in nearly three months, and I spent most of Thursday and Friday at doctors' offices for various things (turns out I may be hyperthyroid, but I digress...).
So last night I drive down to visit my mom (who lives 100 miles away). I'm at her house getting ready for bed, and I smack my foot on a doorjamb. I take off my sock, and my little toe is sticking out from the rest of my foot at a 90° angle. So it's off to the emergency room for the second time in as many months.
Now, in addition to the constant joint pain in my legs, the extreme fatigue and cloudy-headedness, I get to wear a duck flipper on my foot for a few weeks.
I'm telling you, 2007 is CURSED.

4. Nothing like a Klonopin/Geodon/Motrin coctail to take the edge off, though |
|
I can't do narcotics or alkeehol so it's the next best thing.

It's funny because I think the adrenaline rush has had a beneficial effect on the brain chemistry. I'm not as lethargic today as I have been this past week. Strange...

two or three times a day.
Nothing like a little adrenaline to wake ya up! It's MUCH better than caffeine!

since I'm off caffeine and most other fun stuff. I damn near had a panic attack in the ER though-- thankfully the Klonopin killed that off right away.

Hope the toe heals well, and you get some answers from the doctors. :pals:

The thyroid may be why I've had this latest bipolar episode for two months longer than normal. However, my calcium level was high in my last blood test, so my bones may be a bit brittle.
Made a helluva crack when it snapped though. Like a firecracker. Wait, more like an M-80. :)

13. I broke my pinky once and that REALLY hurt so I sympathize.. |
|
at least I didn't have to stand on my pinky though (which was in a splint) although a sadistic phys. ed teacher made me play VOLLEYBALL with it...ARGH. FYI- my younger sister walked around unknowing with a fracture of her big toe for several months..I bet you will be better or at least used to it in a few days.

16. It's a bit better already |
|
but because I have to walk goofy, the joint pain in my knees and hips is worse. They checked me for rheumatoid arthritis when I was hospitalized last month, so I know it's not that. I'm hoping that the joint pain is due to the thyroid being out of whack.
At this point I'll take anything for an explanation. Even tinfoil hat theories or little green men from Mars.

Have you had an ANA test done? Thats the anti-nuclear antibody test they do for Lupus...more and more it sounds like you have some sort of autoimmune issue--that can ALSO affect brain chemistry too so that might be worth a peek....

I may have to look into that. It doesn't run in my family, but it did in my ex-wife's. :scared:

The sad part was that I was going to spend Saturday working on new music. But because the toe hurt so damn much I couldn't get focused enough to do anything. :(

22. Been there, done that .. October 2003. |
|
The damn toe still throbs at times, and I can't bend it. When I broke it in 2003, the whole forward half of my foot turned black within a couple of hours.
How did I break it? Going down dark stairs (dark to keep from waking Dr. D.) early in the morning to let the dogs out. I thought I had reached the floor level, but I hadn't. I took a step out into space and came down with my full weight on my left big toe. Needless to say, my howling woke Dr. D.!
