If a stranger asked you for a date, would you say yes in any circumstance?
I'm married, but if I were single I wouldn't agree to a date with any guy who walked up to me and asked me nor would I give him my number no matter how attractive he was. If he was someone who I saw often and had talked to in the public place I saw him, I would do a background check and attempt to gather references before agreeing to anything and definitely before going alone with him to his place or mine. In my opinion, it is just not safe to agree to date random strangers. Maybe others, especially, feel differently though.
It is just something that came to mind with lp's thread.

1. i went on a date with a complete stranger who picked me up at work
i was working cashier at a bookstore. she came through my line to buy something, we chatted a bit, and she left. she came back a couple of minutes later and asked me out. i thought it was pretty cool, so i agreed.

she turned out to be a stone loony, but it was still cool that she asked me out.

4. Not always
Probably more men than women do the asking and some people expect it to go that way. Sometimes women ask guys out though.

8. Would you have accepted a date from a man in the same circumstance?
If I had dated women, I might accept a date from a woman I didn't know or be more likely to be alone with her sooner. I am more likely to accept rides or invitations to do things with women who I know less well than with men. Maybe that is sexist of me but that's how my comfort zone is.

9. Sure, but it depends on what you mean by "date."
I wouldn't necessarily give him my info or invite him over, but I would meet him somewhere public to get to know him better.

10. Yes
A cute guy came to a store where I used to work. He seemed funny and was cute and then he asked for my phone number at checkout. We went out on our first date 2 days later. Then got engaged about 2 weeks later. Engagement lasted 15 months so it was balanced out on that side.

We have been married for 11 years so far.

13. Before I was ever alone with him or gave him my phone number, I'd
want to go have coffee with him somewhere in a public place in broad daylight to see what kind of vibes he gave off.

I would not go out on a typical evening date with him before I had done this, not unless he had already been pre-screened for pervitude by a trusted friend or relative.
