Post your obscure 90s under-appreciated music classic. OK for me: Cake: "I Will Survive" |
|
Perhaps the best cover of the Gloria Gaynor classic rendered in a weird robotic style.
I won't post any Nirvana because it's not "under-appreciated."
But En Vogue, "Whatta Man," is up there.

9. Is that West Coast? For NYers, we only heard it on bar juke boxes |
|
I'll never, ever, ever forget the first and only time I heard Cake's "Survive" publicly in the NY area: It as around 3:00 am in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, at Teddie's Bar, one of the places that turned Willamsburg from a ghetto into a trendy neighborghood. Me, a fantastic carpenter, and two strippers getting off work we met there in the early morning hours of some Saturday in the mid 1990s. One of them put a dollar in the jukebox to play Cake.

21. Those guys were "almost" in my circle of friends back in the '80's. |
|
Several of my close friends knew Drew. He lived in Gold Hill and they lived just down the road.
One friend played in a band with Vince (the Salmonheads).
There used to be big "picking parties" for bluegrass and "old time" players at a bar in Gold Hill once a month. Those guys would show up if they weren't busy with something else.

28. I'm really trying to come up with something good that came out of the 90's... |
|
Except for Clinton being in office...music videos were in their death-knell...
Later SoundGarden videos and maybe some Nirvana videos...I'll really have to think about this one a while before I post something.

Man, I loved the whole record. But I'll always remember being semi-passed out on my floor after a big party, just getting tickled by this awesome song.
Also, Railroad Jerk/White Hassle had some great records.
Best record nobody ever heard of: Charm Pops/Charm Pops A band from Norman Okla., friends with the Flaming Lips. Produced by Dave Fridman. Just good catchy, quirky, pop songs.
