What music have you listened to this weekend? |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 08:12 PM by mvd
Here are the albums in my collection that I listened to:
The National - Boxer (highly recommended indie music - folky songs like "Start A War" are up with the best of the genre.)
Against Me! - New Wave (one of the best rock albums of the year)
The Dollyrots - Because I'm Awesome (wonderful power pop type music!)
Two albums on CMT's album previews:
Katie Armiger - self-titled (she has a very good voice for her age, and it's not commercial fluff. Like Taylor Swift, she is a very talented young country star. Katie has a bit of alt-country in her sound, while Taylor recreates the wistful Deana Carter sound with some Michelle Branch in there.)
Kenny Chesney - Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates (his new CD isn't bad. The first 5 songs are good, and the last one ("Demons") has good lyrics. I don't think he sings "Wild Ride" very well, though.)
samples from:
Drug Rug - they would be better if the female member could sing
Plumb - the new stuff gets a big thumbs up, as always

Definitely at the top of my favourites for this year. I've been listening to a lot of Refused this weekend. Kanye West's new album as well, which is pretty solid. Right now I'm listening to Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures."

The lead singer's voice is perfect for the rock music. Intense, but not whiny, emo-ish, or overdone.

Heard samples of all the songs from KT Tunstall's Drastic Fantastic. I am VERY impressed! More varied than the debut, even "Hold On" sounds more fresh among the other songs. The CD definitely packs a lot of pop punch, if these samples are any indication. The CD went high on my wish list.

I've been listening to a Fugazi record and a Minneapolis Genius record (that's Punk & Funk, notice my rhyming taste today) both from the 80's because I just got a record player that makes vinyl stuff into mp3's!!! :headbang: I'm so happy with myself I can hardly stand it :D I'll be wasting time listening to some RANDOM music but it's so fun now!

samples from -
Patti Scialfa's Play It as It Lays - IMO not as strong as her previous CD. It lacks melodies that are as strong, causing her vocals to seem more flat.
The Static Dynamic - pretty hard stuff, but melodic. They are worth checking out more.
And Alicia Keys's new song "No One." Glad to see she's sticking to that older R&B sound!
